911 virgin after advice
Discussion
Hi, I live in London (on street parking) and I'm looking for my first 911 as a weekend toy for c£10k. After a little research I'm leaning towards a post '76 as I understand this is when Porsche first started to galvanize them? Any advice on the best models to get, what to look out for etc would be greatly appreciated, cheers.
Get a 3.2 Carrera, as late a model as you can (1984-1989).
There were a host of improvements over the 3.0SC (late seventies) but I wouldn't even consider the ones before that (2.4/2.7/3.0) as they are deep into classic territory.
Best buy would be a LHD 3.2 Carrera 1987 onwards, which has the sweeter G50 gearbox. This should just creep into your budget.

As Domster says - latest 3.2 is your ideal buy. My 1st 911 was a LHD 1987 car, absolutely the right thing to buy. A well bought 3.2 should hold it's price if you look after it as well.
Thanks, is the car any better as a LHD? Can you recommend anywhere near London to drive a late '80's 3.2?
Have a look in AutoTrader to see LHD 3.2s for sale from dealers, ring them up and see if they'll let you test drive one.
Then get an independent inspection before you buy a car, whether it be from dealer or private sale (worth subscribing to Porsche Club Great Britain as their classifieds are good - www.porscheclubgb.com )
