Renting Property
Discussion
Hello,
I am just looking for some quick advice from one of you many landlords on here.
If one was looking to rent privately would I need to prove my income or does it work on a 'don't pay, your out!' policy.
I ask because I am looking to rent possibly soon but am unable to prove my income as will be working for myself at home.
Any advice?
Thanks very much,
Thomas

Are you talking about renting home or business premises?
For home as a tenant, I've done both, I've been subject to a bank reference, income check and on another rental I've just signed the tenancy agreement with no checks.
When I had my rental flat I didn't do income checks on tenants.
My guess is that if you go through an agent they'll have a company in place that does the checking but if you pick an ad out of the paper and go straight to the landlord you're less likely to get checked.
If it's commercial property the answer is probably different.
