Renault To Build A Nano
Renault-Nissan is working on a £1,276 car to rival the Tata Nano
Renault is after a slice of the ‘World’s Cheapest Car’ pie, reportedly bringing out a vehicle that will cost $2,500 (£1,276).
The car is only known as Codename ULC and will cost around the same as the Tata Nano, which was recently launched.
Renault-Nissan will work with Indian company Bajaj on the car and production is expected to begin in 2011.
India will be the new car’s main market and 400,000 will be made every year in a factory in Chakan, Maharashtra state.
The Tata Nano will be the current cheapest car when it goes on sale later this year.
India’s economy is booming and car sales are expected to more than quadruple to $145bn by 2016.

God the Nano is ugly - looks like a daewoo matiz with it's face kicked in - mind you still a nicer prospect than a G-Wiz...
Renault should just bring back the 4 - they were ugly, slow, cheap, rusted quickly and would kill all 4 occupants in a crash - pretty much the same as the Tata really - the bonus being the Renault had an onion holder gear stick as standard.

I wonder how the government would react to it being sold over here - it would certanily be one in the eye for their "get everyone on public transport" obsession. With a car that cheap, presumably with an engine to match, it would be a pittence to keep/drive compared to taking the train/bus.
As for the car, its ugly, but for a small/low income family currently being brought to the poverty line by utility bills etc, who cant afford a "normal" car, it might be the answer to their prayers (again the government wont like that!). Better a cheap ugly box than nowt...
