Who's bought one of these Geodesy units from Morpheous? I have to say it's a great unit but is this "50 pounds to the first person to spot a camera" a bit of a con? Has anyone actually been paid any money? I spotted lots of cameras but apparently I was the second person every time....hmmmm.....

I bought one of the Geodesy units in November from the Morpheous stand at Brands Hatch. Like you I was a sceptical about the £25 reward scheme however I received a cheque from them for £50 in early December and I know they are checking out a further 1/2 cameras I found. The checking is fair enough as anybody could press the button and they do need to validate entries in their database,they admit they have a bit of a back log for checking though. All in all I have found the unit brilliant - "it does exactly what it says on the can" and the service from the company has been excellent as well. Thoroughly recommend - it has saved me from 6 points from cameras in areas I diid not know.

So how does it work ?

It uses the GPS satelites to know where you are and then compares that to its database of known speed cameras, when you are getting close to one it sets off the lights and buzzers to warn you. Obviously it cannot tell if the camera is turned on or not and it is also only as good as its database, hence the £25 reward for alerting them to a new camera (you press a button on the unit when at the camera, it then records the position, and you can upload it later to head office and claim the money - as long as you are the first to notify them and they can confirm its location) That's basically it as far as I know, if they could incorporate it in to a route planning bit of software then that would be better as you could get the route planner to avoid all cameras....well I can dream ================ Graham and Rosie

I spoke to a very nice lady at Geodesy today who informs me that later this year they will be able to connect your Geodesy to a Palm Pilot type thing and incorporate navigation software, and putting 2 and 2 together it should give you a route with no known camera's, top stuff, mines in the post. Anyone else fitted one of these recently?
