Your A/C compressor has exploded from the look of it!

OK, maybe it's not too clear.

Red jagged line is shattered metal casing off of, what? Is that the starter? sorry to be dumb but I am! frown

Circles indicate bearing grease and metal shavings that exploded across the engine.

Anyone else had this? It's a real mess.

And no, that's not nitrous biggrin but a "new" location for the Big Fuse.

Isn't that what I said. rolleyes

Was the A/C working before this happened?

I believe that there's lubricant in the coolant itself, could this have happened if the system was empty? I'm just surmising I'm no expert on A/C systems. scratchchin

Car is not undriveable tbw. just disconnect the A/C Compressor belt, you should be fine.

Tim you were first, so the prize is yours!

I'll book it in and see what can be done, the aircon had failed recently, i thought it had leaked, and the compressor clutch wasn't connecting either so needed and overhaul, definately needs and overhaul now. Currently drove it home like this and apart from making a god awful grating noise everything else works fine.

That should be an easy fix. If you get a new compressor I will give you a hand to fit it, if you like? Just dont the road, but off to Chelmsofrd from Friday.

Cheers guys, many many thanks for the offer.

Since the Aircon system was playing up anyway, i think this may be the oppertunity (if we can get the parts) to hand it over to a pro to fully go over the whole system sort any leaks and get it back to where it should be.

Update: Took car into PR Woods in Southend on Wednesday this week.

Unfortunately the compressors exploded, not really sure why, must've got bloody hot or siezed then the metal failed. The casing then flew around the engine and has damaged the belt for the alternater. New belts and a compressor + re charge. Hopefully get her back mid next week. with working air con. Garage said they'd never seen anything like it!

It's been off the road a month! Still missed all that rain.

Aiming to go to Babbington House with Mrs Southendpier for her birthday and she wants to take the Cerb. So GOTTA get it fixed and working. Nice 350 mile round trip.

If you're heading to Babbington and coming from the a36, be careful on roads through the woods near the hotel as there's a real 'oh st' left hand bend en route, caught me out once, much to the delight of the gf!

Enjoy

Well as we enter July still no car!

had issues getting parts for it, a pulley had been damaged by the metal casing from the compressor and I have been told Multipart sent the only version they have which didn't fit and needed to be machined. The car was then rebuilt with 2nd hand compressor - all that was available - that has immediately failed.

So annoying! Hopefully will be back next week.

blimey that sounds like good news.

Do you think that the casing parts would've been pumped/sucked through the pipes? The aircon wasn't on when it failed so hopefully nothing was available to pump through. Also I'm kind of hoping that if the system failed like it did then then would've been an immediate pressure failure so that might help.

Anyways, it was a very odd failure not one that the garage had seen before. fingers crossed - she'll be back soon.
