Not much, unless you give ninemeister a lot of money

I don't mean this in a bad way - 9M can get well over 300bhp out of a 944S2 engine (supercharging it etc) and has some lovely mods. However, if you want an extra 50 bhp for the price of an exhaust and filter it just isn't going to happen.

You can a) spend a grand or so and get an exhaust, filter and remap, which may up power from 220 to (at a guess) approx 235 bhp if you are lucky

Or you can b) spend considerably more getting 9M to do things properly. You are talking many thousands tho', as Colin is a sought after specialist and his experience isn't cheap. Indeed, it may be better suited to more expensive cars, as you could easily spend 50% to 100% of your car's value on mods if you go down this route.

I've done the following to mine:-

1. K&N panel filter in Std airbox. £50
2. Stainless steel exhaust from Porsche-apart, not claimed to enhance performance but looks & sound better. £250
3. Rolling road re-chip by AMD. £300

Got a grand total of 10bhp & 10lb/ft. Not a great gain for the money spent but the best part is the improve driveability and throttle response, the car feels so much crisper now, and it does better mpg!!
If your looking for huge power gains get a 944 Turbo, but I'm sure most people who've owned both will tell you, the S2 makes a better road car.
I've had mine for over 3years now and I still can't bear to part with it, how much is your mate asking for his? I've seen a few really cheap ones on Autotrade recently, just make sure it's had all the weak spots checked and fixed and I'm sure you'll love it.

First of all don't use the RAC for the inspection, you need to find someone who works on 944's all the time and knows what to look for. Don't know of anyone in your area but I'm sure someone will.
Depending on the mileage you need to check:-
1. Cam tensioner assembly and cams for wear on the teeth.
2. Brakes, for signs for contamination build up behind the steel plates. I think there is a seperate thread on this.
3. Water pump
4. Cam belt and tensioners.

Buy a good one and you'll never want rid, buy a dog and you'll be cursing Porsche for ever more, so a good inspection is essential.

Funbobby, rac inspection is better than nowt but best to have an inspection by a reputable pork specialist.

See 944 buyers guide for potential probs but in a nutshell- cam/balance belts & tensioner, (if this has not been done recently do this ASAP like the next day) gearboxes, torque tubes, calipers.

Andy S2 yes spot on plus 10 bhp on 210'ish' is about ya lot gain wise, but lots of 968's are down in that power anyway despite the variocam & lots dont crank out the 240 or so they should.

Lots of porker howlers out there however to trap the unwary, ie read this link-

www.pistonheads.com/porsche/default.asp?storyId=5515

The poor sod paid a lot of cash for that, so go careful.

Yes, 17" Cup alloys are a straight fit. I have them on my S2 (see pic in profile). I would also recommend an inspection from JZ Machtech. I have used JZ for the past 5 years servicing my cars and will be there on Thursday for the next one.

available new from Porsche - expensive

available new from aftermarket firms doing a very good Porsche copy (doubt you'd know the difference) - reasonable, prob about half price of Porsche ones

available second hand through Porsche classifieds etc

I would get a copy of 911&Porsche World as classifieds may show something and they have lots of wheel suppliers advertising. I would recommend Jasmine Motorsport (may be googlable).

Also try Ebay and any of the Porsche accessory specialists. I have heard it said that the copy wheels are slightly heavier than genuine but have not weighed them myself.

Genuine wheels have two numbers embossed either side of the valve. One is the offset the other is the width in inches. Copies do not have this and the profile of the spokes is squarer. Anoraks like myself can spot them easily but then I should really get a life

Incidentally, I bought mine S/H from a chap who had his stolen. They were replaced direct from Porsche and the insurance claim was a cool £4000 including tyres from an OPC

Cost me £400 including the centre caps and he can't have done more than 1000 miles on the tyres
