Ooops - all done now.

Question for current Exige drivers - what are the Yokos really like in the wet? Obviously I plan to take it very easy and to get some driver training under my belt as soon as finances permit. Never had any problems in the Elise, even in very wet weather but I'm aware these tyres can cause more problems so would appreciate comments from those with experience.

Am I just being paranoid?

In damp conditions they are absolutely fine but it does move around if provoked. I drive like a granny if it's very wet as I don't want to find out if their repuatation is correct! You've only got to look at them to see they won't shift much water in a hurry, so beware lying water. I've used mine all year round for 3 years without any trouble so they certainly aren't widowmakers!!

Edited to add- nice looking motor by the way!

The yokos are fine in the wet, don't forget they have a very soft compound, so on not too cold damp roads I find the traction better than a more std tyre! The problem comes when you hit standing water or nip a puddle. On unknown roads in the dark with lots of standing water I find I go at granny like pace and get very sweaty palms.

If the running cost were the same I would stick to o48's for everyday use, but as they wear out very quickly and are not inexpensive to purchase I run a second set of rims with TR1's and get on fine. Its almost a waste wearing out 048s on our heavily congested roads!

Not as bad as everyone makes out IMHO. Just drive sensibly and you'll be fine. Obviously try and avoid big puddles....

The levels of grip I got round a wet Oulton Park were deeply impressive. It was actually worth doing a 'wet' track day on them to help realise their limits. As long as you're in a straight line before hitting the GO pedal there was very little drama. Unbalance the car in a corner and clearly its a different story....

Love the car; looks superb!!!! Looks particularly mean in black actually (and the only reason I didn't get a black one is because my Elise was black).

As for the A048's - I agree with what others have said.

Very nice Chris! And believe me, the smile doesn't wear off...

I echo the sentiments re the A048s. The biggest problem I find is on soaking wet motorways - crawling in the slow lane sees me aquaplaning on the water stood in the lorry ruts vs. slightly higher speed to justify sitting in the outside lane. Sweaty palms either way!
