As i understand it on s2 (the facelift versions) originally the engine used was the k series rover but that was changed to the vvc toyota unit but that could be changed for a honda vtec engine am i right so far?.

If so are the toyota and k series rover engine the same size and with the same engine mountings aka is it an "Easy" retrofit ?

the entire rear subframes of the cars are different...in fact, so much as you could refer to the Toyotoa engined cars as Elise series 2.5wink

The rear subframe is the same as on the VX220 and VXT

An American company has done a conversion to fit the supercharged 2.0l ecotec engine. http://www.secantvehicles.com/performance.html

Right well this is an issue then that will req further investigation. Basically i was thinking the other day that it was kinda tempting to try retrofitting a toyota vvtli supercharged engine into an mg tf with around 220-250bhp. If i could get one for 4-6k an engine for 700-2k and an lpg conversion and get it all fitted for around 12-14k it would make an excellent w end car (should be fairly frugal) pretty damn swift and therefore a good sleeper.

Weight so far as i can tell is roughly similar to elise but its easier to get in and out of as i am too tall for an elise.

Got to better ways of spending your money. You could get some decent stuff for that cash:

Just a thought !

Sounds like an awful lot of trouble to go to ... there were some aftermarket turbo conversions for the K... if you find one of them around it'd be a lot less hassle to look for one of them instead.

I'd start with the MGF forums

Posted in there already. Yeah true about the tvr aspect its simply one of my many mad ideas (like sticking a v10 m5 engine into an 8 series and having most of the body panels remade in a much lighter material such as aluminium) however was kinda thinking that with this the conversion might be simpler and less costly esp if i could get a car sans engine for next to nothing which would bring cost into 6-10k area then it would be worth properly considering.

A brief search on tinternet and info on mgf weight was hard to come by but got the impression it was around 11-1200kg versus elise at a guess 8-1000kg.
Not important at the end o the day end result was simply to make a swift "girly" mg tf sleeper car and w end toy on the relative cheap and it seems plans not a good un so....

which Elises do you think weigh 800-1000Kg?...only the last generation of Toyota engined cars with all options ticked are up to 860-900Kg ...every other Elise, S2, and S2 before that were sub 800Kg

Thing that gave me the idea is that i have/had a toyota vvtli and the cam change up at 6k is hilarious fun and the compressor version sounds even better but is stuck in a tank so figured stick the compressor version toyota engine in but with a fair bit more grunt and the little mg would absolutely fly. As stated before i have tried an elise and as sorely tempted to buy one late last year but found i was too tall and would need to fit a removable s wheel or remove the roof.
