Indie Cherry bomb coversion - ''it depends on the car ''
Discussion
Last summer I paid an Indie do the cherry bomb conversion. My wife and neighbours found it a little too noisey so I decided to tone it down a little. The plan was to open the back box, half the length of the cherry bomb silencers and make up the difference with perforated pipe and exhaust wadding.
This is what I found yesterday handy work autographed by Tony

Not a cherry bomb in sight, Just straight through pipes.
I called the Indie this morning and asked them to explain the cherry bomb conversion......
'' we cut the top of the box and replace the perforated pipe with cherry bomb silencers..''
So how come I have straight through pipes..
'' well Sir it depends on the car, sometimes we put cherry bombs in, sometimes straight bits of pipe, we can always make it quieter for you if you bring it back in'' NO THANKS. Perhaps if i'd got what I paid for in the first place I wouldnt have had to do it myself.
The moral of the story is, make sure you get what you pay for.... I know there have been a few owners who havent liked the cherry bomb conversion, perhaps, like me, they never had it in the first place

Whilst we understand your frustration and anger PH does run a non name and shame policy so i have edited the names out. Please mail OP if you would like any more info.
Cheers BB

I'm fairly sure all that Indies conversions are like this for a couple of reasons:
- That Indies cars are a lot louder than cars with proper cherry bombs (I have the ACT cherrybomb exhaust and when it had standard manifolds etc, it wasn't much louder than standard, but much more throaty).
- The Indies conversion is very cheap. I remember speaking to ACT about the cost of cherry bombs, and he couldn't see how they could charge so little for the conversion as the cherrybombs should cost the same as the whole conversion!

cripes! the amount of discussion in the past by people trying to decide whether to do cherrys or straight through and it turns out they are the same anyway!
not suprising really, but a "cherry bomb conversion" does seem to have that certain appeal, rather than, "straight through" please.
Don't want this to turn into a 'told you so' thread as that's no good for anybody but I did have my suspicions and I'd in no way want to open a book on how many actually had a real cherry bomb in - I know where my money would be...
Oh well - as long as you enjoy the sound I guess you didn't pay over the odds for a straight through from what I understand they charge...

I'm not, and I'm not at all supprised concidering it's them either.
Doesn't the Owner from them post on here? What a suprise he hasn't responded, and I very much doubt that he will.
A bit of a daft thing for them to do really (if that is what they did), especially since the TVR community is a fairly small one and despite there not being many posts on this thread no doubt a lot of potential customers will have read it.Doesn't the Owner from them post on here? Surprised this has been left to run as long as it has with them being advertisers(£) on this site.

If all is as the OP says, and i have no reason to doubt him, then this is quite shocking to read.
I had their Cherry Bomb conversion done to my last exhaust, and i can honestly say i was delighted with it's sound, and the way that it "matured" over the 20k miles use it got. It most certainly sounded different (better IMHO) to those with a straight through conversion, and i have reccommended it many times.
I have just had an ACT Cherry Bomb full system fitted, which is definately quieter, and without the bangs and crackles (although that may be due to the SC) - definately different to theres.
I would be interested to hear what That Garage have to say...
