Hi All. I've just signed up to the forum today. :-)Apologies if this post is in the wrong forum.

I'm in the market for a MKV GOLF GTI. Can anyone suggest any discounted places to order a GTI from? I'm not far from Harrogate/York. I've tried the local dealers but they don't have any Red, 5Dr, MKV GTI's in stock. I'm after a manual one with low mileage, preferably a year old with under 10k. I would like a new car but can't really afford it. frown Are there things I should look out for when buying? Also, are there any discounts from dealers when purchasing it from them? What percentage off the selling price can I realistically be looking for?

Thanks in advance. Appreciate any help/suggestion.

Think you will struggle to get a bargain, they are quite rare still as a used car, dealers have been asking almost new prices for them, still good car for the money!

HI and welcome!

Your best bet is to trawl through all the classified ad sections of enthusiast sites and autotrader. You won't get any discount from a dealer due to the high demand for the GTI's and a car thats less than a year old won't be too much of a bargain either.

Thats a bog standard GTI spec motor and it still fetches £19k a year on, would have only been 21k to buy!

Good look with yor search!

Lots about but most are Silver, grey or Black!! Motorpoint has about 20 GTI's in two spec's but they are all those colours.

I wouldn't like to get an import, so will stay clear of places that sell 'em.

Whats wrong with imports? ARent they the same car, built by the same co but with a shorter warranty and potentially minor spec differences?

I understand that VW dealers sell imports second hand on forecourts.
I think that you just sell them for a bit less money.
You seem to be able to get a new import for the same price as a yr and half old uk one.

I've got an import and there is no difference whatsoever, it is looked after and serviced by a main dealer. It does come with a two rather than a three year warranty but you can add another year for around £400 I think.

Got it from www.euroimports.co.uk and can highly recommend them.

There appear to be the Chesterfield and Derby companies undercutting each other all the time with imports and for less I think than Euroimports

no difference really with imports apart from the 1 year less warranty as stated in posts.
i had a 172 clio on import a few years ago which i paid 12k instead of 15k. apart from the warranty the only other difference was that the manual was in french.

mine's an import ... www.simpledeal.co.uk, was at least 3k off list, has been perfect (12,000mls now) except a misted up rear light lens which the VAG garage in camberley replaced on warranty without a murmour .. and it's DSG with no rust!

Just bought a 07 5 door GTI with 7k on the clock from a main dealer.

It was a bit cheap(ish) at £175000 and it turns out it was a German car (not told by the dealer) but the sales chap told me I get the remainder of the three year warranty

I bought a used one 3 weeks ago form a main dealer: its an immaculate June 05, 18,000 Miles, Reflex Silver 3 door with the 18 Inch Monza wheels, after a struggle managed to get it for 14,995 (£500 off list) and they left the Tax disc in which was nice. As already mention it is hard to find a decent one for a good price as the alternatives i looked at were double the milage and only £1500 less and not in as good a condition.

Good luck on your search.
