I read a few posts on here by people using industrial type polishers on their cars ... I believe Rev, you use one is that right?

if so, any recommendations on a good polisher / mop ?

Ultimate detailing machine (UDM)
Porter Cable 7424
or as Ceneus has already said, the Meguiars G220.

The first 2 are 110v so a transformer is needed but both still great (I have a UDM myself ordered from Autopia in the states http://www.autopia.org/

All 3 are essentially very similar machines voltages apart and described as paint detailers rather than polishers. The meguiars G220 you don't need a transformer for but a few people on the detailing world website have had a few teething problems with them.

Basically, you pays your money....

As for the big polishers, many are basically an adapted grinder and too severe for paint detailing and correction. If you have a lot of experience then fine. But if you want to play it safe and don't want to risk burning through your paint, I'd stick to one of the first 3 mentioned.

For info, go onto YouTube and search for videos of the Porter cable 7424 (most well known so most videos) and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve.

I wouldn't swap my UDM for anything cloud9

Cheers L33.
My cousin (sadly no longer with us) used to be in the paint trade. he used to polish and cut back my paintwork with his professional polisher. Im looking to give the wedge and the Mondeo ST a little TLC.

Ive still got the wedge. Just finished the house move, and have to build a bigger garage as the existing one is soon to be converted into a larger living room.

To be honest, although the wedge was up for sale, there were a few enquiries, all of which were tyre kickers and time wasters (yes, you know who you are......)

Im gonna keep the wedge, build a new garage for it, love it and polish it, and finally get around to sorting out all the little problems with it. Then, Will probably add something a little "special" to the collection when I get my new company car

Good on ya!
I sold my wedge and as much as it shames me to admit on a public forum, I regret it. A lot.

Many people advised me not to but I thought the grass was greener. It wasn't.

Anyways, The Chim may well be going today so watch this space!

I did.
It was between a Wedge and a Tuscan, but opon measuring the available space in my garage, the Tuscan idea has gone out of the window unless I can grind about 10cm off its length somewhere...

I will have a look at a few Tamoras and if they don't give the same grin factor as the wedge did, I'll be coming back to the fold.

Theres currently a very big & very bad wedge up for grabs at the moment (and its not red???). I know the owner pretty well and I know it's a very sorted wedge but I'll have to be quick in making my mind up as it won't be around for long.
biggrin

I must say that I prefer the Tam out of all the T cars smile

I am selling my 350i at the mo - hopefully to get an SE (or even an SEAC depending on a few things coming together...).

And to get back on topic - I shall be using good old Triplewax and elbow grease to tempt the buyers! smile

Although there are better polishes / waxes, for the money, try some Meguiars NXT - you'll be amazed at the differencewink
