Thanks GC

Not as much as TVR factory claimed at 320 bhp!

Example: TVR Power's supercharged 500 gives out 316 bhp

Measured mine slightly modded and 275 bhp was claimed as a good result for a normally aspirated 5 litre.

I.I.R.C. a standard 500 will put out around 270-280bhp,
A lightly modified will give around 300,
A Taraka will get you around 320bhp (mine does)
the SC500 I saw on Saturday was apparently giving 340+ on std ECU and was awaiting an after market ECU to deliver much more.

He's talking about 'at-the-wheels' figures when he says 316 bhp as mine gives out 300+ at the flywheel so his MUST be significantly more than mine.

i do hope so... think even TVR might have struggled to claim 320 atw thoughwink

Think a non modded engine is more likely to be between 240-265. spend a grand and you may be lucky to get close to 300. The top end bhp figure is not something to be aiming for though. Mid range grunt is better to drive with IMO. I.e will give a good strong 3rd gear. Have based my engine mods around this by chosing a Stealth cam and keeping the torque up. Have seen a few 500 putting out near 300 but the mid range is a bit lacking. Really wish the supercharger was ready when i did my engine mods irked

I think we must consider 'claimed' to real dyno rolling road definitives here.

The fly power figure for healthy 500 lump is around 260-280hp, some do make 300 out of the box but not many. I think the important bit is a healthy 500 will have around 300lbs of torque available for most of its rev range. That's what makes them go imho.

Healthy 5 litre will be between 260 and 280 bhp.

Anything with a worn cam (and lots of them are) will be around 250bhp.

Perky cam should see you at 290bhp+ . Induction etc should see 310+

Not done a charged car that was working properly, so yet to see any figs.

just to hijack this thread briefly, are the charts in the thread linked below likely to be from a wrongly set up RR (same type as yours Vixpy) or a healthy engine or a modified engine - it's supposed to be a 4 litre (that's what the plate and log book say anyway)

Not impossible for a very very healthy mapped 4ltr but not normal.
As an example of what's required my old V8S was balanced, lightened, high compression, different cam, remapped ECU and with an after market 3D ignition and used to make 275hp 285lbs all day long.
I have seen some 4ltr V8S's make 260hp/270lbs with only fuel mapping though, a bit rarer for the later 4ltrs RV8's in a Chim etc to make the same though.

Its a kosha graph chap, nothing wrong with it at all. I've never seen figs like that from a standard 4 litre. However if the cam has been changed then figs like that are certainly possible.

A reasonable way of telling if the graph is ok is to go on about 70 lb.ft/litre for a RV8 .. on that basis going on the torque of around 280ish lb.ft on this engine you've got to say it's proper run but it's defo not to the accepted std spec, though it may have left the factory like that as certain car specs were massaged .. psychobert for instance has a V8S that knocked spots of my own (lightly) modified V8S on the dyno .. and it's reputed that certain dealers got special treatment on their demonstrators, though I don't know how true that rumour is. Whatever th story behind this particular car it's no doubt giving some larger capacity TVRs a real fright!

I don't think it's that unrealistic to get those sort of figures... I run a 450 with a few mods (induction, exhaust, mc1 cam and emerald ecu) and it makes a healthy 240bhp/300ftlbs at the wheels on Emerald's rollers which I guess equates to around 290/350ish at the fly and that's on standard heads (seeing a big drop off in bhp at the top end because of this). With BV heads I'd hope to see 300 bhp at the wheels but with a 500 I'd guess you could hit TVR's claimed figures at the wheels without too much of a fight (although you have to chuck a fair bit of money at it!)

I dont think BV heads would give 60 bhp ....

Mine's a standard unmodified 500 with a new standard cam. It made 265.8 bhp.
