A friend of mine (who wants to be a ) said that when pulled over by the police at night, turning on your interior lights makes them feel safer .
Is this correct? I would think it puts them on edge , as most people probably don't do this.

I guess it gives them a clear view of everyone inside, shows that you're not holding a weapon etc.

Shining a torch below your chin - that'd definitely endear you to them!

WHEN PULLED OVER AT NIGHT, YOU SHOULD...?
NEVER stop in a dark place
NEVER open your doors/windows
NEVER get out of the car
If it's an unmarked car, call the BiB on the phone, and tell them you'll proceed to a well lit BiB station or other area.
IF in doubt SCRAM!!!!!!

(reasons: this trick is often used on unsuspecting travellers in USA, especially South of France (200 cases already this year!), Poland, and all eastern bloc countries to ROB you!!!!) and it won't be long until the ghetto scumbags in GB use this!!!!

Im surprised this tactic is not employed in the UK, thankfully!!!

Absolutely. I fully agree.
Personally, if I stopped someone, and they put the interior light on I would see it as a positive thing. It is nice to see what is going on inside a vehicle because you never know what sort of thing is waiting for you.

I work for one of the international parcel delivery companies and all our drivers are issued with a laminated card that they are told to hold up at the window of their trucks if they are ever pulled over (at day or night). It basically says that the driver is not going to get out of the vehicle, open the door, open the trailer, etc but will follow the police to a designated police station where they will cooperate.

So to answer the question, yes, there have been instances where criminals have dressed up as the police and held up vehicles. Don't know how often this happens though.

Yes I have, unfortunately.
There is no reason why a plain unmarked police vehicle would need to stop a motorist. Legally it has to be a marked vehicle.
Advice - If it isnt a marked vehicle, don't stop, if in doubt drive to the nearest police station.
Also, if lowland is the big ugly one, its me!Cheers.
Mike.

In my younger student days I remember having a slightly herbally enhanced conversation with a mate about what to say / do if you were pulled over by the fuzz and unfortunately I still remember the results of that discussion word for word to this day...

We decided that as the officer approaches the car you *MUST* get the window down and before he has the chance to say a word you must come out with the following...

"Good Day/Evening officer. I am homo-whore. Is there perchance anything I may suck to facilitate my speedy onward journey?"

Needless to say I've never subsequently tried it out...

...strange the things that you still remember after 14 years though!

Alas it happens a lot in Manchester, particularly round the Salford area. We get regular bulletins at work as the incidents tend to happen in groups - i.e. when a group of the local scrotes find somewhere where there's easy pickings, e.g. J3 of M602.

A favourite trick is to torch traffic light control boxes at busy junctions, putting the lights out - then hit the car whilst the driver's too busy concentrating on the junction
