Hi All,

I’ve got a question that I would like to run past you all.
My S2 Elise is with a garage having it's annual service, also change disc's and pad’s and have alignment check.
I also asked if they could get it MOT'd, to which they informed that they don’t do MOT’s on site but can get one done.
That evening I got a call from the garage saying that whilst the car was having it’s MOT a delivery van reversed in to the front of my car, needing a new front clam.
The garage has informed me that the cost of the repair is being covered by the insurance of the MOT garage.
This has also caused me a massive inconvinience because I was due to go away this bank holiday and I’ve be told that there is no chance of getting the car back in time and they are hoping I’ll get it back before Le Mans trip.
This damage has probably devalued my car, on top of the service cost of £1500, i am very disappointed that garage that I left my car with have not offered any compensation or goodwill gesture.

Will my insurance company be informed and will this show up on a HPI check?,
Would you expect some form of goodwill gesture due to happening whilst car was in their care?
free service? alignment check?

or just my toughluck banghead

Regards

Giles

Sounds like terribly bad luck.
I would try pushing for a goodwill gesture if they havent offered one already. If you dont ask then you wont get. Legally they are not obliged to give you a gesture though.
In terms of compensation for your messed up holiday plans then surely your insuarnce company would be better to advise, i would inform them in case the garage turns snide on you.

PS
Whats a Solutions Architect??

Hmmm sounds a little fishy. If a van reversed into your car (other than the MOT stations) ... why is the MOT station's (presumably public liability) insurance covering the costs of the repairs to your car.

I'd lok up AnniesDad (deals with innocent party insurance claims) on here and discuss the situation with him. He comes highly recommended.

Agree with that (although I wouldn't lok him up tongue out) - it's 100% not your fault, an accident management company would give you a car and get the car fixed where you choose to have it fixed.

But whatever you do, don't let the MOT station do the repairs, chances are they haven't a clue how an Elise is bolted together and will bodge it.

Don't worry about value, a properly repaired car is worth the same, especially if it's just a clam that needs replacing - they're like bumpers on normal cars.

The garage is getting it repair with their preferred repair centre, I’ve been told that they are an approved warranty repair centre for lotus.

Calm is a consumable item pretty much, only makes the car look pretty, lol. So it's nothing to worry about in terms of the value. I am guessing what they missed off was, "One of our 16 year old lads reversed another customers van in your Lotus, that's why it's our insurance paying up".

It's your car! You have it repaired where YOU want, not where the MOT centre tell you it's being done.

My other half is the real deal (as in she designs buildings) and they get very shirty about other people using the title (there was a move to make it illegal unless you were RIBA'd). I imagine that after 7 years of study they have a right to feel possesive!

Get the car fixed where you want it fixed and demand a car whilst yours is away.
Unlucky BTW.
