The brakes on my 944 have never really felt all that sharp

Investigation has proved them to fairly worn, but not alarmingly

In order to improve them, I wonder if any of you guys have any experience of some of the after market performance set ups

Its unlikely to do many track days, and besides what I am really after is an improvement in the feel and initial bite rather than the overall stopping power

Any suggestions?

given that yours is an 86 car, you should be able to fit turbo capipers etc with no problem at all give simon at porsch-apart a bell for prices and options etc

Turbo, or S2 brakes should make quite a difference, should be no need to go to cross drilled as properly set up originals are excellent.

Thanks Guys

I'll try Porschapart

Don'tlift, is that the way you've gone with yours?

Nope, no upgrades for me, I am running standard brakes as mine is the earlier 85 car which has different hubs and the larger turbo brakes do not fit.

However I do have drilled and grooved Discs, goodrich hoses and castrol response fluid to help the job along.

I sympathise with this post.
When I had my '86 944 I could never get a good pedal feel. System was checked and bled many times and fluid changed but still a long spongey pedal. Brakes actually worked well, just didn't feel like it. Maybe the Goodrich hoses are the answer.

The Goodrich hoses certainly make for a better pedal feel, but the padal does still have a fair bit of travel in it.

The travel doesn't bother me too much so long as it's quite progressive. At the moment all the stopping power is at the end of the travel, and the feel is extremely limited.

I'll definitely change the hoses, I have a performance fluid in there but it has made no real difference

Woahhh there!!!

I have looked into this on my 87 S, and found that you muct have 16 inch wheels to have turbo/S2 brakes. otherwise they will not fit.

This is defenantly worth checking before you buy the bits.

My brakes feel quite progressive with a fair amount of pedal travel. I had the brakes refurbished on my Peugeot the other day and they feel more firm than the Porsche now. Maybe they all feel like that - actual braking performance however is great.
