On the A30 after just leaving Devon into Cornwall,

Lone copper standing next to his panda leaning on the door with laser pointing at traffic. Think I was ok as I was only doing a registered 80MPH (actaully 75ish). There was no video equipment obvious and no catch team down the road so I dont know what he was really doing. Was not writing down plate no.s either!

And on the way back another one pointing a laser at another dead straight bit of road just coming down a hill. Once again no visible recording equipment and was not writing anything down and no catch team down the road.

So what were these guys doing? They were not visibly catching anyone and were not writing any information down from the timeslot I could see them in!

And why were they doing it on the dead stright duals and not the singles where the BM... sorry luxery cars like to sit up your arse and cause dangerous driving.

ooooooooo grrrrrr

Maybe they were ascertaining if it was financially worthwhile putting a Talivan in?

Ascertainig financial viability?

I expect so, any business venturing into a new area is wise to undertake some preliminary market research.

Few misconceptions here....
The device can hold images if its linked to a box of tricks or could be reading them from the device viewfinder to his mate in the car....
Therefore doesn't need to write anything down....
Therefore you may not need to be stopped at the time..

Await your NIP with glee...

Reading them out from a small viewfinder to his mate in the car?!?!?! Gh0st - you weren't there! Ask them to prove it....

Tivster - are you implying that he reads them out and the other BiB write them down? I see scope for errors!

More worrying - If I got caught by both that would mean 6 points which is loss of job etc.

Would they be classed as 2 seperate offences as they were 2 hours apart??

That's all he needs I'm afraid - as I said this can link into an image recorder as far as I'm aware

LOL...I'll find out who that was tomorrow.....however...it wouldn't have been a panda...speed detection on the A30 is the sole responsibility of Trafic...not "area" staff.

In reply to your question...they were probably doing exactly what most of you normally complain about....instead of just setting a Talivan there to deal will all offenders over the ACPO guidline speed, they were probably only dealing with those people travelling at "very good speeds"...hence the fact they didn't even nod at you!! Good old fashioned Traffic men...stopping only the worst offenders..and using their discretion with others.

This has to be borne in context...the A30 is the absolute backbone of Devon and Cornwall, and carries an unbelievably high volume of traffic all year...but even more so through the summer. It has to be expected that it will be policed!!

I was about today in a plain Omega on that stretch of road.......didn't see me did you??
