Cost to refit a boutique style shop?
Discussion
Hi,
Just trying to figure out the cost to refit a small (retail) boutique style shop. Assume existing shop stripped to a bare shell and approx size 500sqft.
Will need to include lighting, signage, flooring, fixtures & fittings (rails & storage), security system, air con, small kitchen/restroom area, point of sale/service desk etc..
Obviously not looking for exact cost just an approximate.
Thanks
Freshy

Not a boutique, but a few years ago a friend had a computer shop fitted out, about the same sort of size, nothing flash and it cost £18k. I recon he could have got everything in and paid a local handyman type to do it for half that. Shop fitting is stupidly expensive for what it is IMHO, especially if they aren't coming up with some uber-swish design for you as well that's going to blow everyone else away.

Thanks for the response. Need to make the shop look luxurious as we will be selling high end fashion garments. I guess the sky is the limit but at least I get some sort of an idea.
done this a number of times. get in touch with shopfittings direct. ignore the website prices though and haggle. b&q for lighting and make sure that flooring is good quality, don't skimp there. for the size u are talking, using the fitting range I have in my shops u wud be looking at about 15k worst case assuming u are diy handyarfur said:

Totally agree, if you need some prices/samples then I can help, retail/leisure flooring is what I do, usually on large scale but would be happy to help if you need samples or adviceThanks for the responses I almost have an idea of the budget I need.
Still trying to negotiate the best price for the one of the two shops we are looking at. One is more or less fitted the other is a shell.
I didn't think about taking pictures will have to do that next time I pop in.
Current ideas are high gloss white/minimalistic or French Boudoir two extremes but I'm sure we can get the effect we want with minimal cost.

If you're leasing don't forget to factor in the landlord's costs of granting you a licence for alter (if structural) and approving your works, especially if you're looking at aircon which will probably need kit outside of the area demised to you.
I'd factor in £1k each for Landlords' & surveyors costs and perhaps a bit less for your own.
