This is a very good starting point for all trackdays in France

http://www.trackdays.fr

and also

http://www.pilotedudimanche.net

Unfortunately, both Magny Cours F1 & Club are a bit difficult this year. Perhaps once they loose the GP next year, there will be more

Be careful with insurance and the waivers you are signing at the track. Someone mentioned on here a while ago about other party liability if you crash into someone.

It is a track I want to do too though - along with Monza, Ascari, etc, etc

Plenty of very loud cars going - so nothing to worry about

My understanding with insurance is that you have to have 3rd party cover, for example if you knocked someone down in the pit lane and any UK cover would do for this. I have to obtain this cover per event through Gras Savoye at a cost of 24 euros per day as my car is not homologated in France – Class C RGB championship..

There seems to be a gentleman's agreement that if you damage someone else’s car through negligence that you will pick up the cost of repair, for example a guy reversed into my stationary car in the pit lane and expected to pick up the cost of repair. Magny Cours make you sign a special form saying that you will pick up the cost if you damage the circuit infrastructure and give you a schedule of what things cost. Some organisers take out insurance themselves for this.

Incidents on track are at your own risk, but some organisers say that they expect drivers to resolve their own issues and will not get involved in settlement. I do not feel that it is significantly different from most UK trackdays – if you can’t afford to mend it then don’t bend it.

Renting an ordinary track for the day does not seem that expensive at 2500 – 3000 euros mid-week so if sufficient like-minded people wanted to club together, it is not impossible to do. Obviously Magny Cours and Le Mans are quite a bit more costly.

Magny Cours is not all that by the way much better circuits in France, Dijon, Ecuyers are much more challenging and fun.

I do think that a fast road car on an F1 track can be a bit like driving down a Motorway - Hangar straight being a good example - 500m to 700m straights are enough.
My favourite French track is Val de Vienne, just south of Poitiers http://www.circuit-valdevienne.fr/
Rubbish website but fantastic track
