Here are a few pics of the rather lovely clutch I've just received from KEP in the US

Stage 2 billet ali pressure plate looks the biz. The kit is rated to 800ft/lbs and should just be a straightforward replacement for the Ultima unit, but tomorrow will tell when I try to fit it. Downside to this is the metallic clutch plate which will be a bit grabby, but once moving should be fine. Best bit was getting it here for under £500, $800 plus shipping in fact, but I'm hoping it will do the same job as the GD offering, which nearly £1800 but had some neat ideas to help the G50 installation and operation.

Should be fine on the uptake as it is sprung! Mine has worked out OK and it is not sprung at all!

Thanks for the help Paul, I doubt I'll ever get the hang of posting pics properly.
Just had it out for its first run and at first I thought it was going to be too heavy, but it settled a bit after a few miles and is ok for the sort of driving I'm looking at. No problems with the changing once you're on the move, in fact it was possibly better than the standard clutch. Fitting it was as "easy" as the original, so no problems apart from taking the thrust bearing off, must've been designed by someone with a twisted mind.

How is the take off in traffic? Honestly. I had a kevlar paddle and just couldn't get on with it. Awsome on full dumps (Ohhooerr) but a pain in the butt at low speed. Couldn't even do my favourite 2nd starts without shudder from hell!! What's your experience?

Ok P, so far after all of 15 miles, the stop to moving judder is minimal but there, doesn't seem to affect the speed of clutch engagement, and certainly not off-putting for me. The main problem I have is the supercharger/engine stutter, for want of a better word, at 0-5mph, after that it's ok, and under any sort of throttle is wonderful. The clutch disc is "metallic" so maybe different to a kevlar one, but I'm happy with the result as it is no more difficult than the original and will hold the power better when challenged. Have to say that the engineering of the GD offering sounds lovely but can't spend that amount on the clutch this year. Remind me P, what are your shocks set at for track days.

Need to sort out a clutch for my build and thinking of using this setup... How have you got on with it Mr. Vet? :-)
I really like the setup Can Am Dave has used, but it may be a bit pricey.... :-(
This at £500 seems a lot more reasonable.
I am building mine as a road car so I would like a soft a clutch as possible, but still able to hold back 650lb.ft of torque. Do you think this is a good solution or should I spend more on an organic, tripple plate arrangement? Are they softer or just as hard to use?

Cheers,

Mart

Sorry Tim, missed this one.

The std spring set up I was using, took 35 clicks front and rear. Richard has since told me that 45 clicks should give less roll.

Hi Mart, after a bit of use on road and track, I have to say that this is not an easy clutch to use on the road and if that was where I intended to use the car, would pick an alternative. On track, you don't even notice the weight of the clutch [good old adrenaline?]. I think you should see what a car such a sDave's is like for street manners, and decide then. As a compromise there is an organic disc for this clutch set up which is softer but is only rated for 700ft/lbs, Still a very heavy pedal action though. It was a question of cost for me, and I think the GD kit is a great idea as it gets rid of the clutch fork which is a pain when putting the gearbox on and off, just too expensive.
Thanks for the reminder of shocks P, see you at Brunters soon I hope.

Thanks for that... I will have a look again at the GD setup. I think they use Superclutch for the plate in their setup?

They do use the superclutch set up, but GD have also developed an improved starter ring assembly which will avoid some of the possible pitfalls of the standard starter arrangement. GD can supply an off the shelf solution for LSx engines but will need to check some of your flywheel/adapter plate measurements for sorting the SBC option.

Worth noting that the clutch is actually under £800 from GD... the other £1k is the adapter plate, flywheel, ringgear and starter as the Ultima and GD parts are not interchangeable and thus the whole package has to be bought.

I bought only the clutch and release bearing from them as they don't do the rest of the bits for my Engine.... I am also fairly certain by just doing your own ringgear you could use the GD clutch and flywheel and keep the Ultima adapter and starter saving £800!!

From others experience of the GD clutch its extremelly easy to use and very light... of cause it takes huge power and abuse... however if you tend to ride the clutch in trafic for example it will not last 5mins and the porsche one will be a better option.
