Well, my Chim needs a new cam frown. Where's the best (cheapest!) place to get a direct replacement? What else should I change - lifters and followers?

I've also read good things on here about the MC1 cam - seems to improve driveability. Would I need to get the ECU reprogrammed though, and is it a lot more pricey?

Thanks in advance...

Phone Dave Wallis from Tower View on 0208 452 6922. This is his old London number but will patch through to his premises in Norfolk.

Dave's been working on TVR's for 40 years...

Probably a daft question but how do you know when the camshaft needs changing?

In my case it was a misfire above about 4000-4500 rpm, overheating and some pinking.

Cost to replace a standard 500 cam, chain and followers, annual service and MOT in May last year was 1203.45. Independent in North Yorkshire.

How simple is the cam shaft replacement for a reasonably competant DIY enthusiast?

You'll certainly need to replace the cam, lifters and timing chain set. The pushrods and rocker assemblies should be checked but will probably be OK. The trickiest parts of the job are setting the cam timing, and setting the lifter preloads. If you're comfortable with both of those the rest of it should be a dozen.

Cheers for that. Engine is part stripped down now and a new (standard) camshaft on it's way from TVR Power. Don't suppose you know whether the lifters are the standard Range River 4.6 hydraulic lifters do you? (part number ERC4949 I think).

Yes, use standard LR lifters on that cam,i will be changing my cam, lifters, and springs for one of these http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/product.php?id=592winki already have a fairly lairy cam but feel i can go some more with the mods my motor as already,i am not bothered about the poor low speed manners that this type of cam generally give(my HC cam is not good in that respect anyway)this cam spec wont suit most though, but then i dont use my car to commute or sit in traffic, johnnyBv,i think this answers your question on that previous post toothumbup
