Hi all

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem, My Garmin 360T has stopped receiving traffic info. Beginning of the week it took longer than usual to pick up the signal, odd by not disastrous. At the end of the week it didn't acquire the signal over the whole trip home (over 90 minutes).

I haven't changed anything in the way the unit is fitted in the car. I've since tried the unit away from the car (powered by a 12v supply), aerial open to FM, with the same lack of result.

Any clues would be appreciated. I've look at replacement cost and it's £50 from Garmin, which is with the current cost of Sat Navs is almost at the point I could think about replacing the whole unit. Of course this had to happen after I updated the maps.

Thanks for your time.

Todd

Only me then.

Email Garmin and have got no response so far. So I phoned them on Friday, after the standard fob off of running the updates, unsurprisingly that didn't fix it. So I phoned them again and they now are going to repair it for a fixed fee of £22.69.

Had the same thing

Was looking at the aerial connection, as it was tight from the connector to the windscreen, and might have been fractured. The signal light is indicating that a TMC signal is being picked up very rarely, even in areas where it used to pick up a strong signal.

What is your TMC signal light indicating for reception?

Normally the GTM 12 TMC receiver locks on pretty quickly. But performance is definitely variable - it can sometimes take ages to update.

Only send it for repair if you think you might have damaged it, I would suggest. Because the 'fault' might just be poor transmitted information rather than faulty reception.

Mind you, with all the dangling cables Garmin units need for TMC reception, some damage is probably inevitable after a while.

Why the hell can't they sell a 'hardwired' combined TMC receiver and GPS power supply?

It's in the post to Garmin now. As given the last journey I used it there should have been plenty of signal. Living in the mountains of Cambridgeshire there isn't much to restrict any signal, so when I left it on in the conservatory (with 12v supply), it should have been getting a better signal than in the car.

My guess is that the aerial wire may have broken from being taken in and out of the car frequently.

I'd certainly prefer a system with an integrated aerial and also that didn't require external power running off its own batteries.

One thing I did notice looking round their website looking for answers is that Trafficmaster is now available as an extra - for a price. Although as it's a lifetime deal it is tempting, I suppose the lifetime refers to the equipment subscribed though.

Got a return back from Garmin last week, I don't know if they tried to repair my original, but they've sent me a new one. All seems to be working as it should now. What I'm now tempted to do is sign up to Trafficmaster as Garmin are now offering it, I think the data is better quality than TMC.

I also got a reply back from their technical support to my original question, so it took them more than a fortnight to come back with a standard fob off response.
