Rear wash/wipe

Morning all

The rear wash/wipe has packed up on our 5 series (E39) Touring. To start with, the wiper would stick in the vertical position, then not wipe at all. Now the wash isn't working either.

Is this a common fault? Any ideas as to what parts to replace? (assuming wiper motor?)

Hi, have you opened the glass tailgate recently? If so, the pin inside (beneath the wiper on the glass) may not have relocated in it's hole properly. If the pump is sounding strangled then it is probably blocked and the strainer needs cleaning. Again, both common annoyances I'm afraid!

Hmm, that was my first thought (that the pin wasn't located properly). Reseated it but seemed to make no difference.

Will check the wiring later when the missus gets home (it's her car).

To add insult to injury, she managed to snap off the wiper arm whilst trying to (cough) gentle move it back to the horizontal position.

our e46 touring has a similar system, the rear wiper had completely siezed, replaced all the bits of the rear wiper mechanism for £50-60.

Where did you order the parts? Local BMW independent has quoted £150 for parts along

Dealer, ask them "is that the best you can do?" it may have been £150 then, I can't remember as it was over a year ago, although I remember thinking to myself that it wasreasonaable.
