T5 or T5R?

I thinking about one of the above, Iv'e had the T5 before (automatic estate) but not an "R". The question is, apart from the lowering and an extra 15-20 ponnie's of the "R", is the any point in having an "R" over a T5?

when i did my research before bouying mine i was steered towards the T5 as the T5R's seem to have alot of AWD system problems

i went for the T5 and have owned it 18months now ,it realy is a fantastic car

I didnt know the "R" was an awd....they will be a bit thistier than T5's then, or will they.

i would say yes it will be thirstier but best ask a T5R owner.

in my T5 i get 30mpg AVG using it for work and 35mpg AVG sat on cruise at 75/80ish

they are a very comfy car and a pleasure to do any distances in

go for an Auto/tiptronic as Volvo manual box's are notchy as hell...the Autos box's are a peach esp in urban driving situations

My last T5 was auto, and was great, I have only had one manual T5 (a while ago) but I wouldnt say it had a "notchy" box, well I didnt think so. The only thing that is putting me off the "R" is the "hard" suspension, and now the awd that you mentined, how "hard" is it compared to the "normal" T5.

Mt mates has just told of a P plate T5 automatic estate thats seemingly selling for 2k, with just over 160k and seemingly in stunning condition....is this to much.


Edit..has had a few sensibl'ish mods though..

i cant comment on the ride of the T5 over the T5R tbh as i've not driven a T5R

i paid £1750 for my 1994 850 T5 SE estate 18months ago with 104k on the clock

i spent months looking before i finaly chose my one, it was the best one i could find and totaly standard with a full service history and generaly very well looked after

t5 is a Q car, i had mine and would slide in 2nd gear on straight line if i floored it, it had staggering performance
t5r i would like to drive, but its 4wd and probably cost a lot to fix

I used to own a t5r,it was a n plate 95, they are front wheel drive not 4 wheel,but you can get a awd later on but they are badged, the t5r was only produced for the touring cars of that time ,only a couple of hundred were sold and are getting rarer especially in manual form, thanks.

Have to reinforce the last post, the normal T5-Rs are front wheel drive.

I own a black auto estate and don't find the ride too harsh. Only had it a couple of weeks and was seriously surprised at the weekend just how much it grips round the bends. Pushed it a bit hard into one, dabbed the brakes and it instantly came back under control and shot out of the corner quicker than much else I've driven.
