Hi

With an S4 (5 ltr), if you take it VERY easy ...maybe 25 mpg...

If you BOOT IT.....maybe 18 (motorway)

In TOWN.....take it easy...maybe 20

In TOWN...boot it....MAYBE 13....

All the best Brett

Drove an '88 928 S4 for a couple of years and got Motorway 22-25 and City 15-18. Great car though.

Hi

No chips wont help, in a 928 you need 2 chips and they are for extra performance (around 10 to 20 hp..maybe) they are not for economy.

The way to look at this is that the S4 HAS 8 CYLINDERS and 320 hp, it was NEVER intended to be economical, but it has HUGE amounts of Torque and Hp, when you really boot it, there is little on the road that can keep up, it cruises nicely at 145 ish

My S2 does around 10 to 12 around town and around 2 to 5 when using my Nitrous lol

All the best Brett

I see about 23mpg doing a steady 80 on the motorway. 15-ish when in town.

The current record for my car is 3.8 (at full throttle, top of 2nd gear) on the strip at Santa Pod. biggrin

Mine used to average around 20 day to day mixed driving, a trip to Le Mans at between 140 and 160 cruising returned 21mpg.

The moral of the story? If you want to save the environment and some kittens then drive at warp speedwink

I had a 4.7-S model

Best I ever saw was 21.5mpg, but that was a 500 mile, half motorway at aboot 120 and half urban. Other than that I was never able to resist the power. Ohhhh the power.

There is a chap amongst the 928 owners who has a couple of 928s, one of which he has installed a BMW 525tds diesel engine into, it works a treat hehe

Hi smile

The problem with LPG would be where to put the tank.....there are legalities about that and the only place I can think of would be the spare wheel hole, which would mean having a custom tank for the LPG built and no spare frown

Also its still a V8 which would use a LOT of gas...

All the best Brett smile

To be perfectly frank, at 300 miles a week you'd probably not see much change from £80 or £90 in a 928. Every. Week. So over 4 grand a year.

Are you sure it's the car for the job? 928s are wonderful in every respect, but economical they ain't...

Since I do it every week for the company I work for, I could get a hire car on them and drive it down. But I like the journey* and since I'll be spending alot of time in it I need a nice GT car like the 928.

  • Unless I'm in a hire car...

Heh - if you're driving on the company dime, then my advice (as a long-time expenses claimant) is to tear the arse out of whatever re-imbursement you can get, and do the trip in a 928. biggrin They're comfy, quick, make a wonderful noise and other road users seem to love them. Their drink habit has the potential to be financially crippling, though!...

I agree with this. Best I have got out of MY88 is 26 mpg [UK] at a very steady & constant 70mph [but never for very long! :0
I managed 3.6 mpg best/worst when ragging it on the track with wide open throttle kickdown WOT!
I now have the later dynamic kickdown fitted which can throw down to 1st from any gear without wide open throttle - makes for an exhilarating drive without going to the full extent of No" like Brett's amazing machine!

I average between 18 and 23 in mine - a mix of driving.

And if you've not owned one before, please bear in mind they are hideously expensive to repair & run.

Having said that - a long journey every week will keep everything in good shape.
