Nurburgring 24hrs
Discussion
Having seen the likely torrential rain at Pau for the Grand Prix Historique (and the risk of driving 12 hours and then finding they've cancelled the racing), Plan B is the ring 24 hours so am up, chucking things in the bag (but probably not the things I really need) and off on the 14.20 Speed Ferry. Turn north nstead of south, through Belgium, turn right before Aachen and down to der grunnehalle. Talked hugh in coming as well (ring virgin) and printed the start line of 231 cars including R8, more 911s than a Porsche factory, Astons, Vipers, Corvettes, Scoobies, M3s, oh and a mini. And a 120D Beemer that I recall came third a couple of years ago.
Sweet.
Sweet.
Have just got back from the ring. They are setting up for this at the mo. Loads of locals in s
tty cars with trailers full of camping equipment and tents finding thenselves the best spots, and groups of blokes with big moustaches stood around eating bratwursts listening to 90's dance music on huge speakers. Looks like it should be a good weekend. There doesnt seem to be any rules on where you can set up camp. Nurburg village is rammed wih cars and caravans. Have fun!

Hardly a mention of the Nurburgring 24hrs next weekend on here !
Anyone heading down there ? If not any particular reason why ?
We're updating our blog on the event, with some inside stories of what's really happening. Then if all goes well you should be able to watch some of the race on Playstation's GT TV channel during the next few weeks. Sounds like many teams are having a torrid time, but at least the weather is nice..Anyone heading down there ? If not any particular reason why ?

just got back late last night and what a weekend!! Brilliant camping with fully serviced (no, not maids!) showers, bakery and small shop and a shuttle bus thrown in - all for 48 euros for the weekend. Weekend racing is same price so much cheaper than le mans all round.
Sun was out for the whole weekend with some rain late on Sat night to make the driving a bit more testing. Seeing porsche, BMW, VW (new scirocco), an old mini and 3 astons all out on track for 24 hrs is spectacular . 231 cars off in 3 lots at the start!! Hugh will post pics I'm sure over the next day or so. And the mini stayed the distance!
Hi to Ridds for catching up in pistenklause and hope you enjoyed spa on monday. Yes the germans are mad for it and party like no other - reminds me of first part of gladiators (the woods scene). Amazing so few brits- I did boulogne to the ring in 4 1/2 hours. Guys, if you have never done it, DO IT!!
It's sooooooo different from Le Mans..... but I'll still be there in a few weeks for more.
