Two TVRs are to enter the Bathurst 24 hours race in Australia. The famous circuit will be holding another endurance race this year and a Cerbera and a Tuscan R will be competing.
CDL Racing will be taking their T400R down under to race. They've recruited New Zealander Carl Hanson to race the car. Hanson raced last weekend at Thruxton in one of CDL's Tuscans. He's got his own Tuscan back home which he's raced very successfully in the domestic GT series.
The surprise entry is from Kozi Kalaitzidis who is preparing a Cerbera for the gruelling marathon. He's raced a Chimaera in the Sepang 12 hour race before (see right) and has an affinity for TVRs. The Cerbera to be raced is just a year old and has been fitted with an enduro specification 400bhp Rover V8. FIA V8 spec, centre locking hubs have been fitted, a Glebe dog 'box, Penski shocks and 330mm/290mm, 4 pot brakes.
Kalaitzidis is looking for a couple of drivers - preferably Tuscan/GT racers - to enter. It will literally turn up and drive (you will be collected/returned to the airport!). Price? £12K each plus a £2K crash fund.

I've spoken to Carl quite a few times including just before his trip to the UK. He's supposed to be racing in two Tuscan Challenge meets and then the Spa 1000kms (?) in the CDL T400R before contesting the Bathurst race. Either side of Bathurst he'll be contesting the local GT races.
Carl's own Tuscan that he races here in NZ is very highly developed. For this season the Rover/Wildcat engine is being rebuilt with the aim of producing 600bhp! It runs a 14:1 compression ratio and guzzles avgas. He needs this to compete with the ex-LeMans twin-turbo Porsche 911s!
I believe the changes to the rules this year will reduce the unfair advantage the factory-backed Holden coupe had last year where the rules were basically written for them. They also ran a big-block Chevvy engine which was supposed to find it's way into some production cars which never happened. Despite this the Martin Short Mosler and a couple of the Porkers gave them a run for their money. The Ferraris were also very quick.
It should be very close this year and hopefully TVR will be able to compete for the whole 24hrs. I'm hoping that we'll be able to get a few other TVR owners from NZ and Aussie to attend.
