Shock Absorber Questions
Discussion
Right folks, doing some tidying/maintenance on my 95 Chimaera 4.0 De-Cat at the moment and one of the jobs on my to-do list is the shocks. It may sound silly, but does anybody know if any kind of colour-coding was used on TVR shocks ? Both front shocks were painted yellow, and both rear shocks are green. I haven't removed the shocks yet but I don't fancy the chances of getting identifing marks off 'em as the paint is badly corroded and peeling from all of 'em. I was happy enough with the setup of the car when the shocks were in good order and I'm just trying to establish what kind of shocks were fitted up to now before I order any replacements.
I've looked back through the history file and both front shocks were replaced at 35000mls. (72k on the car now). That was 8 years ago. Would it be a dangerous presumption to assume that the yellow front shocks might be Koni's and the green rears possibly originals ?
Also, any comments or suggestions from other owners on what setup they are happy with would be appreciated (keeping in mind a sensible budget
), the car does see quite a few roads with rough & broken surfaces so nothing too firm I'm afraid...
Sorry for the long-winded post, just want to buy the right shocks the first time round and open the tool-box on the one occasion.
