Buying a private no. plate .............

Possibly looking at buying a new plate but found this comment in the rules & regs ---

There are 2 types of reg plates I think, year specific and non-year specific.
Year Specific:
Current number plates are LLXX LLL (where L is a letter and X a number) ie PR58 ABC (PR being the area issued, the number 08 and 58 would be early/later 2008), previous formats being for example C719 FEC (my old 1986 BMW)
I COULD put C719 FEC (a 1985/1986 plate) on my S3 (J reg 1991 car) as I would be putting an older plate on my car. I COULD NOT put M719 FEC onto it as it would make the car look newer than it is.
When I first got the S3, a few months later in the classifieds here somebody wanted a quick sale on RU51 TVR for £400, but as it was a 2001 reg I wouldn't have been able to put it on the S

Would be something like 1 TVR or 99 TVR, these I assume can go on any car but go for much more money due to them not being tied to a year.

It means
"There's nothing to stop you buying any number plate you like. You can't put it on a vehicle if it makes that vehicle look newer than it really is. If you buy a plate that's too new for your car, despite this advice, then tough." In other words - we're not guaranteeing that any plate you buy is suitable for your car.
For example I have G17 OFF. My TVR was originally G-reg so that's ok. If I bought an H-reg or newer I could swap the plate on to that (even on to a car with the new reg system, ie the current xx08 xxx system). I can't swap it on to a car that's F-reg or older.

As you've found out you've got to buy an older plate then the G plate it's on. Don't bother with those based on dodging spacing etc ( ie just like mine lol) ... the cops are really clamping down on this as their in-built recognition systems do not recognise them...... and you don't want to end up in court, or paying fines for what in your eyes is harmless fun.
If you fancy a run out your way, give a few locals a shout and drop me a line... (parents are in Kent now) and a run n beer would be nice.

Hi Steve, Cars still great thanks. Shiny as ever, still only about 6,000 since it left you ! Its out on the road quite a bit at the mo though.
