Help - A4 electrical gremlins !!

Having a problem with my 2004 S4 electrics.
For some strange reason the brake lights are coming on spontaneously when the car is sat on the driveway and discharging the battery - usually at 2am on the day when I need to drive to a meeting!!

This tends to happen most nights but not always. Has happened during the day also.

A local autoelectrician has drawn a blank and I have checked the pedal is not sticking, and that there are no bare wires touching.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Has anyone got any ideas how to sort this out?

For what it will cost (not a lot + 20 mins max). I'd try a brake pedal switch, they go wrong intermittently all the time on A3 A4 and A6. As its intermitant when the tech tested it it just happend to be working so he wouldn't find anything wrong.
