Evening to all,

i was looking into getting a GT but just out of curiosity, was wondering if anyone knew the actual BHP? I've had a look about but find so many different results it's hard to know which is which.

Cheeeeeeeeers, to anyone who knows!

Which generation?

Gen 6 UK GTs (quad headlight model) are 175-177bhp.
Gen 7 UK GTs are a re badged 190/T-Sport, and should be 189bhp - although dyno results vary.

If it's a Gen 6 JDM import, anything from 130bhp (SS-I) to 200bhp (BEAMS powered SS-III)

Spot on. Mine is turning out 165bhp (drat!) but needs a service to be back to normal.

Depends on the engine if it's a gen 5 mate, if it's a 3S-FE then she's got 158bhp, if it's a 3S-GE then she's down a bit to 125bhp. You can tell which engine is fitted by looking at the vin plate on the bulkhead.

5th generation GT doesn't exist in UK. It's a GTi-16 I think you mean, and that'll be 158 or 154bhp depending on if it has a catalyst or not.

Of course, that's brand new. Depends how many have escaped over the years.

If it's a US spec GT, then it has a 5S-FE engine, and it's pants.

Wrong way around I think; 3SFE is the 120bhp pants one, 3SGE is 158bhp (same as the MR2).

Ah right, well if it's any help, there's one for sale on here actually, http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/522196.htm and yeah you were right, it is the 16v jobby. Seems i need to look into this a bit further.

But yeah, the above one is pretty much the one i was after, and if it's pants, might have to stretch to the GT Four.

Be aware that a stock ST185 won't set your hair on fire either.

A splendid choice sir, and one I made myself. The only problem I have these days is driving *past* petrol stations....

I myself have an ST185 GT-Four and love it. Just be aware though that as already mentioned, in standard form they're pretty underwhelming! Sort the brakes, suspension and crank up the boost and they're great though!! I love mine now but only after bigger brakes, a set of suspension bushes and some important changes under the bonnet (FMIC, remote oil filter, induction kit, de-cat, boost controller etc etc).

cool, one thing is i'm only 21 so insurance seems to buzz cut me a bit, the cheapest i could find is just over a grand and that was from confused.com but still, i'd love a rally rep essentially but dont want a scoob or summat that everyone's got, buit i want a machine that can spank all the pikey's round Andover, in thier 1.3 fiestas. Shouldnt be hard to do though. Any ideas from anyone on another suitable option which has got BHP potential for about the same price as the GT Fours?
