Hi there,

Was browsing a couple of photography forums and came across these two pics: -

Image copyright of 'Ink' from Photography on the net.

The white car is obviously a GT3 spec Gallardo, however the Orange car seems to be a road going Superleggera !

Does anyone know this car or the owner ??, just curious as to how the car runs in a racing enviroment.

Is it competitive and how did it go on track compared to the GT3 version.

Regards

Tim

I was there driving in the Funcup series so saw these guys. I spoke to the guy driving the SuperL as I was surprised to see it there. Looked liked a standard car with stripped interior and rollcage running slicks. Surprised also to see it generally look like it was running faster than the white one.

Have to say I thought it was tragic to see the SuperL with body damage and dings from contact in the race and also the wheels were pretty banged up. Having said that, top marks from having the courage to race it, it sounded sensational!

Didnt stand a chance against the Ford Focus of Andrew Gallacher though. That car flew...in a class of its own!

Amazing difference in ride height between the two. Road car looks low in it's normal environment, but looks like it's on stilts when compared to the full on racing version.

Wheels are too big maybe? We were told at uni never to style a car with wheels bigger than 18 inches. He pointed out Ian Callum's and Julian Thompson's XK8s were the only cars to come out of the factory on 22 inch rims, they tip-toe around Cov now and again.

Its better to be closer to the ground in a race car to allow the floor/diffuser/venturi to work properly. 65mm supposedly, is the optimum, any higher it doesn't work and any lower, not enough air will be flowing through.

The photo forum I originally posted the top photo on allows bigger photos than PH so please click on it so it is unsquished and looks much better, it was really great to see the two cars racing in the Northern Saloon & Sports Car championship although from what i understand Paul Gibson did have some trouble getting the car off the line as the NSSCC use a standing start. The orange one is, as mentioned earlier driven by Ian Donaldson and he had two sets of wheels on it during the weekend which can be seen here in these ph friendly sized photos

Also as mentioned neither of the cars were a match for the Focus of Andrew Gallacher but his focus is a bit specialwink

Cheers
Ian

The white Gallardo was driven by Clubmans racer, Paul Gibson, it is a GT3, apparently testing it before he races it in the British GTs.

No, apparently not! Ian Donaldson stockcar racer, I had stern words towards me when I suggested it was Ian Donaldson who races at Le Mans etc.

Surely the optimum will vary depending on the car? I would guess an F1 car runs lower than a GT car like the lambo above?

Also what about rake? eg would the ride height be the same front and rear or lower at the front to enhance the balance on certain chassis?

Aye, whatever.. So what with all your aero training etc.. is 65mm the optinum for all cars?? Seems to me there would be a huge difference betweem F1, WRC, Touring car..
