Apologies if this has been done to death already, but what Aussie market model is the equivalent to the UK spec 2004 VXR?
Many thanks...
I keep saying this, but the models don't change with the year. In 04 they finished making the VY Commodore (V2 Monaro?) and started making the VZ.Many thanks...
An 04 built VXR could have LS1 at 260KW (349BHP) or LS2 at 297KW (398BHP).

In the UK there were no VZ models in 2005, the 2004 VXR was the 5.7 for clarity! The first 6.0 cars arrived at dealers in late July/early August 2005.

True, but over here we associate an 04 VXR with the 5.7l header big boot single exhaust 380BHP jobby which IMO is the finest car. (But only unmodded)

My April 04 "VXR" has the big boot, merged exhaust and flat bonnet. VY with LS1 by implication?
V2 series III HSV GTO equivalent...LS1 powered. 285kw. The equivalent Commodore was the VYII. I get my specs from redbook, don't know how accurate they are, but it shows the V2seriesIII GTO as 260KW and the GTS coupe as 300KW. IIRC the VY Clubsport R8 had 285KW though...

I wonder why they used the "V2" designation for the Monaro from 2001 to 2004 instead of the corresponding Commodore tag? I guess it means V series 2 door, but then they called the Oct04 model "VZ" the same as the 4 door...

I have read somewhere that the UK cars had 510nm which would indicate they where the 285kw engine, but redbook is puzzling.
If you go back to September 2003 the V2 series 3 HSV GTO LE has 285kw but then as you have said forward 5 months and it is indicating 260kw. Very odd to go backwards.

I can only find one 2004 v2 series 3 HSV GTO car on carpoint and that is in WA but is is really hard to see the power numbers above the side indicator.
Sorry "the muppet", me and tim will get back to you when we have worked it out!!!

Hi motomk, thanks for the research. I'm sure i've seen that 510nm figure in a car comic somewhere too. So many variations on a common theme!!

The V2 I think came because they were based on the VX series 2 commodore. They don't ever as far as I know, they don't call them the same, even though they have the same shape. VU was for the ute. They started out with VB, VC, VN, VP, VS,VR,VT,VX,VY,VZ,VE. (might have missed some). There was a bit of talk of what they were going to call it after the VZ... cause they ran out of letters..
