Really popular in kit cars. Mine has an MT75 box, but a lot have Type 9's, which you can get better ratios for.

F.Y.I all ford engines fit all ford boxes although some of the spigot bushes/bearing need changing. just change the center plate and pressure plate to suit splines, the only fly in the ointment can be the release bearing/lever & pivot

I have a 2L zetec in my Tiger, with a normal type-9 box on it. Very simple engine, tough and (touch wood) reliable. Makes around 150bhp on Weber 45s.

You will need a special spigot bearing (from Paul Toyne's site the Ford part number is FINIS code 1554973) and it's worthwhile removing the 2L flywheel and fitting a 1.6 / 1.8 flywheel instead, as it is lighter. You'll need special bolts for that from Ford or Burton power or somewhere, don't reuse the old ones.

Lots of info here :

and kit-car related here inc. details of the release bearing and clutch parts needed (follow link to Zetec resources pages):

Actually, I reckon you got it right the first time, Vtec!

Why haven't I seen any Vtec engined kit cars? (apart from the Atom, and that's not a kit)

There are a couple of Honda V6 powered Lancia Strato's replicas around, I guess that makes the Vtecs.

Very nice engine (reasonably cheap & unburstable, plus lots of choice for tuning bits). The rest depends where you put it. Mine's mid-mounted (200bhp), so using Lotus Europa bellhousing & Renault NG-3 transaxle. A few pics here, can send plenty more if you're interested:

There's a few Westies with S2000 engines in them. I think that most Honda engines(except the S2000) turn the wrong way for an easy front engined/rear drive installation.

The Honda D,B and H series engines turn in the opposite direction to most other engines, which is why the gearbox is on the other end of the engine to normal in FWD applications. This means fitting it in a front engined, RWD application is problematic unless you want 5 reverse gears. Shame as they would be quite well suited otherwise.

People have allegedly fitted normal gearboxes and then fitted the diff (or complete live axle) upside down, but this is a bodge as the gearbox and diff is running backwards and is unlikely to be happy about it for long.
