E39 heater fan with a mind of its own - help!

As above, the interior fan on my X reg 530 sport has gone bonkers. It now comes and goes at a force it decides and the air flow is nothing like the display is showing, its not simply on full or off tho like the old BM's used to go when the resistor packed up.

Whats likely to have gone wrong and how much to sort please - I'd rather fit the bits myself if possible.

It's the resistor pack again - it's in the drivers footwell and is an awkward but simple DIY job.

Do I have to remove much trim to get to it? Any need to get anything re-set after doing the job?

You need to remove the panel in the drivers footwell. Then you can reach in and feel where it is. You can tell when you've got it because it has a flat resin-like surface. Unclip the electrical connector, remove that carefully, then you can unclip the resistor itself.

You will also cut your arms to shreds on the stupid plastic cowling in the dashboard as well!

Im used to working on an Elise and old Jags & Minis - all of which are specifically designed to remove skin!

Once Ive donr this I have to sort out my parking sensors - Ive had it plugged in to a diagnostics box - a non specific fault was found, as soon as you go in reverse it goes nuts, if anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful - even if I could just turn the stupid thing off for the time being!

Put the PDC on then put your ear against each sensor. The one that isnt ticking is broken.

I take it one dodgy sensor can make the entire system go nuts then? I think the previous owner had it jet washed before I got it and tats screwed it up.

My E36 digital climate had this but it was a 50pence resistor that had gone. A tiny bit of soldering was required.
Some people were buying 'broken' units, doing this fix for next to nothing and selling them on for £100 a time. Genius!
