Right, time to replace my Cologne V6, I hate it, its heavy, underpowered and the mechanical fuelling is less reliable than my dads timekeeping. So the question is what to replace it with. There's some suggestions that I've seriously looked at, all could work, some require more effort than others. What are your thoughts? ...apart from WTF???

Tempted to Say Rv8 Same as I've done.
But would be interesting to see one with a LS lump.

pointless putting a 4 pot in even with a Turbo. as seen they are no match for a 4.0 RV8 let alone a bigger one.

I have thought about the current Ford engines, and they don't appear to be up there with the new Chevy's, but yes a possibility.
ETA got rid of the Vauxhall engine for the Ford V8

Nah I need several projects so that when I get pissed off with one bit of one, I can clear my mind working on another, hence the Wedge, Chim and SD1.

Nice install
But you don't need to cut the chassis either to fit a Rv8, just need to weld in new engine mounts and gearbox mount's as you have done. you do need to fit different manifolds though.

The current Ford V8s are the modular engine and OHC - not to be confused with the old small block. Much wider...

I think maybe an LS or an old school Ford Motorsport V8 e.g. Cobra.

Interesting poll and results. My second choice would have been Ford turbocharged V6, as fitted to the Noble to keep in the Spirit of the car; have you considered this?

The red top, while being a stonking motor by all accounts, doesnt really do it, its a 4pot (which I'm loathed to fit) and its a possibility but not high on the list. The engines in the Nobles are tuned Duratec V6's so thats a possibility, start out with a 3l manual engine and box from an S-type then add forced induction if I ever need more power. TBH the outghriht power isnt so important for me, I've got other motors if I want to go very fast, this I just want to have something modern and reliable in, that miht see the occasional track day, but more likely will cruise about on summers evenings etc.

RV8 with proper heads, and probably aftermarket ECU (dizzyless).

Ford 302 would be a better fit a the Chev is quite a lump....

The LS is a lighter engine than the SBC as far as Im aware so that would be the route to go down!

Have a look at the packages available on Jegs Performance thumbup

What you want is a nice Sierra 1.8 turbo diesel .. I just so happen to know where there is one, and it's fitted to a wedge so all the hard work is done smile HTH.

I'd fancy a small block Ford in there...289 or 302.

A little different, but not against TVR tradition. Compact and light weight for its type, and I know they've been put into Capris without major hassle, and of course the Wedge previously referred to.
I'll bet you can use the existing propshaft, with perhaps just a different front yoke.

Loads of tuning potential, with readily available parts, but reliable and well-proven in stock form.

Should sound cloud9 too.

last week I nearly bought off ebay a complete new land rover 4.4l enguine apparently built by Jaguar rated at 300hp. I think it was Buy it now £1650. There is a similar one at the moment for £3,300 still in crate. That sounds a lot better than an overbored Rover V8. Didn't have the time to research it properly though. Wasn't going to put it in my wedge as that is fast enough as it is, but wanted to put it in a kitcar which the owner won't sell now.

Sounds cheap enough, but I thought these were enormous lumps...suited to a compact lightweight car ? scratchchin

Here's a pretty comprehensive list of weights anyway ( love the Napier Deltic...15,000lbs hehe ).

http://www.35pickup.com/mulligan/weight.txt

I'll search out some dimensions...just as important.

Here's some to be going on with : smile

Interesting thoughts lads. All ideas will be considered...I can see myself ultimately buying one of each and seeing what fits and works!!!

Graham, I love Deltics, used to work on the (re-design work for the Navy), to be in a test cell with a 9-55K or 9-59K at full chat is an assault to every possible sense. Sadly I doubt the chassis will be able to take the torque, and the front suspension will need further uprating.
