My respray is now complete!

Here she is in the paint shop, still masked up but starting to look good at last!
After Nibbing off all the dirt in the lacquer with 2000 wet / dry and polishing with G2 polish this is what happens!
Bonnet had to be done again due to some problems with th heat in the oven (on low) effecting the finish.

Blimey thats a serious respray, did it need doing all over or was it a colour change . How many beer/optimax tokens if you don't mind me asking .
Did the gagage do the strip down, or did you do it yourself .
Looks nice btw what is official name for the colour , looks a bit too shiney to be mica blue form the phots to moi.

Paint, £300, backhander! £300, swearing, blood, sweat and tears, £1000s.
This proved it can be done for a reasonable price which means copious amounts of time in my garage grinding and filling. ( I do believe I am now an expert in this field) Before you all go out and buy an orbital sander, it is a very time consuming job and I'm not doing it again!
the original coulour was a dark plain blue and was crazed in a lot of places. Although there is a colour change we masked off all the door shuts and therefore only the inside of the engine bay is noticable as dark blue. This does not matter a dot as some modern cars are different in the engine bay.
The main problem with the GRP is when you have done a lot of work on it with a lot of products you will sometimes, with a older car, have a problem in the oven. The easy and safe way to avoid this is to let it air dry. With modern paints this does not take that long before you can work on it, but will at least be overnight instead of a couple of hours.
The colour is Pacific Blue ( Jag) and was rather thin to cover requiring three to four coats to get it dense. Final two pack lacquer. There will always be bits of dirt that get in the surface which you rub out and polish G3.
I've now got to do the wheels and other bits to finish. seems not much to do but you know how these little things get bigger.

Still can't decide what to do with it now its getting there. As I've been doing it for two years, I sometimes think I'm flogging it. You find that the more work you do the less you want to keep it. Loads of people tend to do this as obviously its going to be worth the most when its done. If you run it for a year it will go down in value. Everyone says who have seen it that I should keep it but if the right offer comes along! I'll see when it finshed, perhaps I'll be smitten with driving the beast!

I've got a polishing wheel and a stripper in the garage, I mean some paint / varnsh stripper. Got quoted £50 a wheel to polish them up, what a rip off. You could buy a new set of alloys for that, but they would not be the propper ones would they.
I'll be doing this job in the next few days, I would welcome any advice on this score, someone must have done it!
