At our track day yesterday (top day at Elvington airfield with BookaTrack) we got a visit from plod in his Vulva T5/R.

There he sits from 2pm til 3pm with his VASCAR camaera pointed up the runway at oncoming motors.

We did invite him to join in, but he just shrugged his shoulders and shut his window!

Why the bloody hell wasn't he out chasing someone down the A64 or something. He was not forthcoming with his reasons for attending this event of potential criminals either.

Could he have been checking VED discs? Or just waiting for the end of the event to check everyone's tyres?

BTW his front nearside P-Zero was visibly below the legal minimum!

more innocent than that.
He was just "clocking up his hours" of use of the hardware.
I heard that they have to use the gear for X hours before being declared "fit for duty". I could be wrong of course.

I hope you do !

Less of this 'one rule for us, another for them' stuff...

Especially when the car concerned is a high-speed pursuit vehicle... remember that the police van which knocked down (and rendered comatose) that C4 newsreader in London was found to have bald tyres... ?

Chances are that the copper will get his knuckles rapped for not doing his vehicle check, but the heart of the matter is that they won't put hand in pocket for new rubber unless someone flags it...

Thats probably the case, and ironically they will argue they are underfunded. Perhaps they wouldnt be if they werent 'wasting' hours of time doing this sort of thing.

I was watching 'Carry on Constable' yesterday, class line in it when Kenneth Williams is trying to get back into favour with his seargent. 'Lets get some motorists, we should be able to get a dozen easily!'

Matt.

Where's your civil courage guys! A plod with bald tyres.... Take photos and do a citizens arrest using all necessary force and put the plonker out of a job. Especially if its a traffic car where they're supposed to be on the same level as God as far as road knowledge is cioncerned! We hear all the time from sensible guys like John Robson but if they're being a real plonker then they deserve to be nicked the same as we would. and IMHO a car with bald tyres is as much a dangerous weapon as a loaded gun in the hands of a druggy on a high!!!

whats all this drivel about them putting hand in pocket for new rubber? It is our money that pays for these idiots to drive around (usually badly) in overpowered family saloons. The buggers should get a push bike each, 10 grand a year and a free council flat.

What is this 'council flat' you speak of?

Those little boxes you drive past on your way to work. They contain teenage car thieves.
