I need to get some longer bolts to bolt it to my engine stand.

I'm guessing they are UNC something like 3/8 but thats a guess.

What gearbox Chris?

I'm just asking in case the bolts are different Rover LT77 vs T5

I have no idea, but if you can measure the existing one, you can find out what it is from here;

Sorry its an LT77 in a V8S, I thought they would all be the same as they screw into the block - did they change on later ones?
Engine is pre serp 1991.

Ian edited to say just noticed you're in Nottingham, I'm in Bingham.

I haven't got anything that I could measure them accurately with, even if I did get my head round those tables!

Well you might need something to measure with, but the table isn't that complicated. There is a row for each known screw diameter, and then a column for each thread type. The intersection of a row an column describes the pitch of the threads for a screw of that type and diameter.

In most cases you can establish the actual thread from just the diameter, but sometimes there are two pitches on the correct row for the diameter, and you can then use the pitch to work out what actual screw you're looking at.

Good luck.

The bolt is roughly 10mm - well it is close as I tried an M10 bolt and its not far off, if anything the M10 is a fraction smaller in diameter.

I'm nice and warm in my lounge so am not very motivated to go and look at the bolt in the garage - I'll have a look tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't mean to come across as sarcastic - I get the table now I've looked at it again and hopefully will work it out tomorrow. Looks a useful recource, Thanks.
