At a guess it's the high miles compared to others, the colour is also often mentioned as being hard to shift. Also the advert is generic blurb written by someone with no idea about the car (drivers air bag on non Super Touring pack car) - doesn't inspire confidence

I don't think there is a bad colour for the s2 exige and it might be of the month they introduced the oil cooler to the touring pack. Just make sure you get an ecu printout to check if its been buzzed. Half the people selling s2 exiges know very little about them I reckon, this sale is no different probably.

What I want to know is why is this-

such a good price, flipping love that car just couldn't afford the running costs.

I think the colour is a bit "safe" for an exige... but as was mentioned before - there's no airbag in that steering wheel - car looks like it just has the touring pack and air con, when many would be looking for the sport pack on an exige. The mileage is average for a normal car, but obviously on the high side for a Lotus, but that wouldn't put me off much... if its looked after and has good history it could be a good buy if you want an S2 exige as a track car or upgrade project.

I had a look at this car on Monday (thinking of selling my S2000 and Westfield and going Lotus!) It looked a little tired! Mainly put of by the fact the rear of the body had large star crazing in the fibre glass reminisant of an old kit car (I asume this isnt normal?). I did'nt make an appointment to see it and just turned up on spec asked to have a look inside to be told the manager had the keys and he had gone home for the day at 11am! Not very impressed! Oh the TVR's number plate had fallen off and was on the floor! Doesn't give you much confidence in buying from them does it?

If a trader sells a car that doesnt even say good condition, it must be really bad. They say excellent for decent. Just a general thought / experience.

Crazing would generally mean it has taken a knock at some stage, which obviously isn't so good.

Grazing as in spider webs? Probably a previous owner put something quite solid but loose in the boot and then decided to go tackle one of his favourite back roads..... that is one of the easiest ways to ruin your rear clam!

So wont be touching this one frown

I was really thinking about it but tbh all reports i found for the company didnt put it in a good light apparently the TVR Tam they have their has been standing around for year now!

And again others placed issues with sales staff and condition of cars...

Real Shame!

Well hang on a minute. Just because it's looking a little tired doesn't mean don't investigate a bit more!

My car's paint was in rubbish condition, but everything else was fine. A few weekends of work and it looks amazing; so it being a little tired isn't reason in itself to go elsewhere, but it does mean you should look throughly at everything else about it.

Ok then, who in the hampshire area is a good independant person to check the car over? Dont have to be acreadited just have to come with recomendation from someone on here...

I had similar thoughts to you Tony but im slightly more concerned with the lack of backing you may get in a case of it going wrong but it does have three years worth of lotus warrenty left?

Unfortunately I don't know about the Hampshire area but that's the right thing to do - get somebody who knows their Exige stuff to check it out.

Don't get me wrong, tell tale signs might lead you away from it and with such a car you are very sensible to wonder why the low price, why the tired paintwork etc - but I was just trying to say don't dismiss it on tired paintwork alone thumbup

LOL a bit of crazing!

Well I was met by Mark who seemed genuine enough, told me due to the previous owner puting his locking wheel nuts in the back it had caused crazing and that they were going to get the back a full respray but the car was in great condition other than that.

I thought ok, I still hadnt seen the car at that point so walked accross with the keys and had a look around and inside and tbh for a car thats done 44k it seemed in good condition inside.

Then looked on the back and tbh the story of locking wheel nuts causing the cracking in the paint was laughable or at least flimsey... twcullen didnt you notice the chunks missing from the rear clam? I came to the conclusion very quickly that its bashed on a bullard or a post and thats what caused the cracking....

Sad really as i kinda have now dismissed the car without knowing what caused the damage and although blue isnt the insaine colour I wanted it did look really nice and stealthy....

Anyway thought i would report back.

Interesting to hear! Glad to hear you went to check it out - it certainly puts your mind at rest and also gives you experience to know what to look for in other cars biggrin
