Novice Track Days

MotorSport Vision organising track days for beginners

MotorSport Vision’s trackday division, Club MSV, has announced new dates for their novice car trackdays.

The events are designed as a starter experience for drivers who have always wanted to go on a trackday, but have perhaps been put off by the thought of sharing the circuit with trackday veterans.

The Club MSV track team ensure that all who take part are of a similar standard and that time on circuit is among cars of a similar performance.

A team of friendly and experienced instructors are on hand on the day offering additional classroom briefings on track driving techniques free of charge as well as one-to-one, in-car tuition on circuit for a small fee.

The Club MSV team are keen to encourage anyone in almost any car to come and give it a go.

Most road-going cars are more than capable of taking part in a trackday and more often than not make up the majority of the attendees on these events.

It's not the trackday veterans that put me off..... I worry far more about the inexperianced!

Munter - I was thinking the same thing. Having not done one of these before, am I likely to find someone ploughing in to the back of my car or is this the right sort of day to go to instead of a 1 on 1 tuition day?

I have done one last year and I will do one again. there were no issues and it was a great day out. Also they are linked to an insurance agent that give a big discount as its a Novice day.

The bit about similar performance cars isn't true. I took the Noble and there were RS4's at one end and Small hatch backs at the other end. I also found you do get the odd person doing a bit of testing. I mean, how can a Novice turn up with their scuby on a trailer with full slicks and changes of tyres!

However, I do find that some of the experienced types think that the 'no overtaking in the braking zone' rule doesnt apply to them....

Hmmm. Interesting, I'll keep an eye on this and see if there's one I can do.

Wish I'd been able to do one before I shelled out for a new set of boots for the 2 though!

Has anyone here done a 'novice' one before?

Which might be the best location in which to participate in this event? i know some tracks are better, so including travel from leicester, which of these is best?

Looks interesting and a good idea. Plus I'm close to Oulton - will give it some thought!

2 of my first 3 track days were MSV novice days at Oulton Park last year. They were a about £20 cheaper than regular days and there were far less queues for getting on track than at some of the regular days I've attended since.

I did the Brands Hatch novice day last year. It's not overly convenient for Leicester, but it's an excellent circuit, particularly if you have a car that isn't strong in terms of top-end speed. Paddock Hill Bend is a tad frightening first time around though!

I agree with mgbond's comments RE the mix of cars - the session I went to had Novas and Nobles - not exactly cars of similar performance. Generally people were fairly well behaved, but there were one or two who ignored the overtaking rules which I found quite unnerving. In my opinion it's worth taking advantage of the cheap insurance, just for peace of mind.

I would like to do a track day but have always been put off by the insurance cost. Last time I checked it was something like £200/day. How much would it be at the discounted novice track day?

I insured the car for 20k and it was £108. You used to be able to insure 50% of the cars value (I think) but now they will only do the full value.

Do it, It's great fun.

I will try and do the August one at Brands if I can get the car sorted by then!

I paid about £65 to insure my Elise, which I thought was pretty good value

The company that gives the discounted rates is Competition Car Insurance

I've done two of MSV's novice track days at Brands Hatch. The pre-run guidance in the minibus, markers for braking points etc and standard of track marshalling all made for an interesting and safe day, without the fear of some nutter cutting you up on a corner.
Thoroughly recommended.
