It was bought from my friend's brother in law who had already received his new car and just wanted to get rid, hence why it was so cheap.
Only bought it because it was cheap, but it's growing on me very quickly.
About the only downside to it is the fairly small boot, but then at least the seats fold.
Seems like the local ladies are quite impressed by it as well.

There's a lot of ignorance out there regarding VED (car tax) rates. If its registered before March 2001 (i.e. up to X reg), the max rate is £185 but going up to £200 in 2009. Only from Y reg on is it rated on emissions.
Yes, that's why I park my (2000 plate) M5 next to my MD's Civic Type R.

At the moment that's correct... would you trust the government not to change the rules again 'tho?sorry to possibly derail this topic, but i remain confused about all these new bands and tax too.
what should i be paying in 2009 and 2010 for my S-type R (1st registered in sept 2002)? according to some sites, i should start paying 400 and something pounds from next year, but according to others, it sounds like i wont get affected by that until 2010, because of some clause about cars registered before march 2006?
totally confused. ???

Sounds like Gordon and his mates are also confused. I'm not sure they written the law yet but the plan was to start fleecing people ASAP, but a number of MPs are not happy, they got a little bit scared they'll be out on their arses soon and are starting to have second thoughts about mugging second hand car drivers. According to the news even some environmentalist aren't too happy with the proposal.what should i be paying in 2009 and 2010 for my S-type R (1st registered in sept 2002)? according to some sites, i should start paying 400 and something pounds from next year, but according to others, it sounds like i wont get affected by that until 2010, because of some clause about cars registered before march 2006?

V,
According to Parker's, you and I (me for my 4.2 V8 SE) and others will be paying the following
From April 2008 £210
2009 £300
2010 £455
and from then on, whatever the government skins us for.
Another case of retrospective legislation. This govenment has over spent, over taxed, over indulged. I think it's on the way out. No wonder, as per the BBC today, a good number of Labour MPs are seriously worried.
Tax the motorist on environmental grounds is OK; spend the revenue raised where though?
Sorry, a grumpy old.....

V,
I do not know the answer, sorry. I hope that if you renew from 10/08 as in your case then you pay the annual rate at that time, but I can see you being charged proportionately from 10/08 to 03/09 and then 04/09 to 09/09. My tax renews at the end of 06/08 so I'll renew on an annual basis and see what happens. I'll let you know unless another PHer comes on here with the answer to your question.
