Hi guys had a blast in me pals Subaru Sti pp thingy magig (53 plate has 305bhp and a load of water spray goodies and big AP brakes)
Was totally blown away by it.
Now i cant be bothered saving up 10k for a decent one similer to his - but i have seen a few on the trader - the classic shape type RA for £5k (i guess a lightweight model with 280bhp cant be too far away from his performance wise?). Ive done my research re identifying a genuine one, but was just wondering if there is anything specific to this model that i need to look out for?
I understand i need to go for a version 3 as it has a stronger engine?
Really not bothered for toys as sick of fixing electrics in every car i have had, i think the stripped model will suit me well.
Any advice guys?
Thanks!

Have a look on bbs.scoobynet.co.uk and bbs.22b.com.
A 280BHP classic Impreza should have the legs (in a straight line) on a 305BHP new age, due to the 250KG or so weight difference. I believe the RA might have a closer ratio gearbox, so tops out at 125 ish, but gets there fairly quickly. However due to this not a motorway car.
Top car for the money, Shell will be your new best friend.

On paper the classic will win, but personally i feel that a newage will win on the road. The brakes/suspension etc are all a step up from the classic but not to sure when it comes to the RA. Could be very close.
But still i would go for the newage even though it is heavier. i still feel the handling is better due to a tighter chassis.

Thanks for the replies, i'm never on the motorway so that doesn't bother me too much. Will very much be a weekend plaything.
Than go for a classic RA. Handling is very different to a normal classic WRX or STi as they have DCCD (driver controlled centre diff), adjustable from 64R:36F static torque split when open up to complete centre difflock for snow/gravel etc. Much, much more fun than a 50:50 scoob.AFAIK the newage STis (post-bugeye) all have DCCD too but the extra 250-300kg still blunts responses a bit.
