Driveway Security
Discussion
Thinking ahead prior to purchasing the Chim, I'm mulling over what measures i could take to make the P&J is safe.
Unfortunately a 100m down the road is a council estate with plenty of social undesirables & the scene come Saturday/Friday night with plenty of drunks staggering by fills me with worry sometimes, especially as the specific part of road we live on is dead silent at that hour, where as it's considerably more "alive" a little further down THAT way.
So what i'm thinking of doing is putting down a visual deterrent. Obviously a car cover will be in place, & the Astra/328 will be sat in front of the drive (Where the Chim is) parked on the road as another further obstacle. But i want something like those foldable posts that can sit in front & just add a little bit extra to it. Think of it as prevention rather than waiting for it to happen then do something.
My question is, has anybody employed any methods like this in securing the drive? If so, has it worked? Also, for something like foldable posts does the Chim on standard springs sit high enough to miss it when going over it?
Thoughts?

I think multiple small obstacles are the way to go - Chinese wall style. Car cover will have a metal rope & padlock, you can always remove the dissie to coil lead. On my old 350i, I fitted a switch to the lo voltage side of the coil - engine would turn over but not fire.
Physical damage to exterior will be the major problem. I have heard people installing baby listeners to get early warning. The other plan is to rent a local garage.

Folding posts and wheel clamps all over the place up in the Middlesbrough area where I had the 'pleasure' of living for a while.
- Used to be the twokker capital of the UK.
The posts are only about 3 inches high when folded (also put in front of garage doors), but maybe a wheel clamp would be easier.
As previously mentioned, vandalism by the scumbags is just as likely,
which is why I sold my tiv while resident in the 'Borough' without a garage. Bought it back now
I know some people even park their p & j on the street, but I wouldn't consider it.
A car cover can damage your car too, if it's not secured properly or made from the wrong material.

I had the same problem. I put up security cameras set up to my PC at the front of the house over looking the drive and one aound the back looking down on to the entry road. Then a security light over the drive and kept the car under cover. Helps to keep something a bit handy by the front door
along with a good pair of running shoes!
Also a blood hungry english bull terrier would be nice but the Missy won't let me go that far!
Not had a minutes trouble yet, if you don't count the noise complaints that is !!!!

Not all people who live in council houses are bad and all rich people are not good. There is no monopoly on drunken behaviour on friday and saturday nights and nobody probably really wants to vandalise your car. We all get precious about our pride and joy.
Having said all that have a look at www.cover-systems.co.uk/foldinggarages. I have used these and they are brilliant. They are not of course vandalproof but do keep your P&J out of sight and hopefully out of mind. If someone is going to steal or damage your car there is nothing ultimately you can do to stop them. Another approach may be to find out who the head scumbag is, take him for a blast in your Chimaera and let him, your new mate, protect it for you.

Some good posts, thanks!
The securioty is definitely something i want to get done, it makes perfect sense. The folding garage is an interesting idea, will need to find out a bit more.
What i'm currently thinking of doing is nabbing a wheel clamp + cover + security light & MAYBE one of those driveway posts. Not 100% sure on the post yet tough.
These CCTV systems, any recommendations?

I have one of these Lights it is very efective at letting you know if anyone is on the drive when ever it is plugged in, day or night, another good thing is a camera, this can be hooked up to the TV and video recorder, both are cheap and very efective.
Do you get an alarm signal when the milky or paperboy come around at quarter past dawn? What about cats?thegamekeeper said:
