I was pretty pi**ed yesterday to get to Santa Pod to find that the famous 'Barn' behind the startline has been redeveloped into offices. I think this is a real shame, as some of the best public viewing at Santa Pod was in the Barn and it was hugely popular.

Seems that the 'elf & safety Nazis played thier part in forcing the closure, despite (to my knowledge) not a single member of the public even being hurt there (if you exclude being smoked like a kipper by the Fireforce car!)

What is also a real shame is that Santa Pod havn't seen fit to try and replace the Barn viewing area any public space behind the startline. So from now on it's only VIP's & corporates near the startline, and screw what thousands of loyal SP customers have thoroughly enjoyed (and paid for) for years.

I aint mystic meg but id also forecast a downturn in sales for the stalls behind the grandstands, why? because the blocking off of the ex-barn area means whilst moving from the end of the banking to the next viewpoint (topside of the grandstand) will mean missing anything worth watching for quite some time, there are food/beer outlets and toilets on the banking side of the strip so why bother going pitside? it used be possible to watch the action AND walk round via the barn, now it is not....

Regarding your interest in the removal of the Barn, I feel that the route that you have described is not quite correct, the new route takes people to the rear of the building and directly into the trade area. This has been desinged with the best intentions and with spectator safety in mind. I feel quite strongly about your comments as it is not you that would have to account for yourself in a court of law if things went wrong.

There are not many other drag race facilities in the world where spectators can view the racing from the rear of the startline. It's only been done for your safety....YOUR SAFETY!

if thats correct is the disclaimer still printed on the rear of all tickets?

and when was the last incident causing hurt or injury to anyone in the barn, whereas a spectator on the banking at the top end was killed by a flying part off a car, but the banking is still there?....and is the pit area closed due to the fumes off nitro cars? no

the simple fact is you cannot remove every possible threat of injury, the chances of slipping down the banking are higher than injury whilst in the barn ever was....

but whats done is done

Thanks Furyous, well said, everyone is entitled to a sound off and having spent many hours talking this one over and over with the local council guys, it upsets me when experts pop up with 'solutions from space' so to speak ...rant over, swiftly moving on crying shame about the weather today eh? lol

I have to say I didn't spot the original thread on this so apologies if I've reopened old wounds. It was just a bloody shock yesterday to find it gone.

yes You would have had to look back a fair way, I think this was announced late last year, so unless you pop in here or Eurodragster.com regularly, it would have come as a shock.

cant be too different from my route shown, unless the path is to be through the staging area!

of course my route is planned on an old image as can be seen by the 1 set of grandstands where 2 now exist, moving "D" even further up the strip

instead of being in danger of high speed REVERSING race cars and motorcycles, you now only have to worry about dashing down the banking, running round thru the catering area, round the back of the new garages, past the staging areas, through the market stall area and past two rows of grandstands to get a view again....
