I'm looking for something to replace the standard Pioneer cassette in my 1998 Chimaera. Something with some silver/aluminium on it probably, as my Chim has a factory fitted alu-dash. I also dont want anything too garish!

Wondering about one of these, but it's quite pricey:

I'm assuming that my original Pioneer CD multichanger would just plug in, so I'd avoid messing about with cabling to the boot.

The other thing would be to go for an Alpine, as some of these look pretty good and are ment to be top quality.

Any suggestions, or pics of decent headunits in your car?!

Cheers

I have one of these in the Griff and the ali dials match the Griffs heater controls a treat. Plus its Pioneer so its fits in great with the Pioneer speakers. The unit itself is superb and the Sat Nav works a treat and is very discreet.

I just put in a DEH6000? Pioneer, one dial, and it controls a USB or Ipod so I have a 2Gb USB with c500 tunes on it. When I was looking for a front unit to control a multidisc I found they were far more expensive than the iPod control units. The up side is you save a few grams in cables/mutlidisc which should improve your power to weight ratiowink

Edit to add, only £119 for the front unit and it arrived the next day.

Funny isn't? We seem to care more how these look than how they sound.

Then again, in a TVR how much of it will you hear anyway?

Well, it wasnt exactly at full throttle, but the music in this video is straight from the car stereo......

OK, I'll add that with the DEH6000 unit you get to choose between full range or sub on the rear pre outs, meaning my 6x9 Rockford Fosgates now produce a really clear sound over 70 with the roof and windows down. You can also choose cross over for both sub and fronts from the head unit. I drove to 200 miles last Friday to the sounds of the Buena Vista Social Club, heard every details and got slight sunburn.

Happy days.
