Insurance & Garaging
Discussion
Thanks for all the insurance advice - I am now left with a quandry - Classicline quoted me a very good quote but the car must be garaged - not a problem as i rent a lockup. Problem is that it's 1/4 mile from my house, thus the car may occasionally be left on my quiet south-west London sidestreet.
Anyone had experience of claiming on a garaged car that just happened to be left on the street?
Will they burn me, or am I being overcautious?
Assumably you cannot be expected to garage the car everywhere it goes!

In my experience if you park it overnight at another location then thats OK, but if its overnight at your address they are likely to investigate further! Meaning they will knock on the doors of your neighbours and ask how often it is left outside etc.... you are right to be cautious Insurance companies will use any small discepancy in your policy to not pay out. Speak to Classic line and ask them about occasionally leaving it outside and see what they say, and if they say thats OK, get it in writing!
Well im insured with classic line,i asked about non garaged insurance, the young lady on the phone said we don't normally do ungaraged insurance but ill check.
A few minutes later she came back and said... ok we can do that but if the car is nicked /damaged whilst parked at home ungaraged the excess will be £350 any other claim and excess will be £250.
Give them another ring
and ask for two quotes one garaged and one ungaraged she should then go and speak to her supervisor
They do insure ungaraged cars as thats what i got

I just rang CL, to enquire about this very thing..
As I took out my Insurance yesterday.
Basically he said that it is covered everywhere except at your home address.
'Quote' "
If you are on an owners club meet, away on holiday in a hotel etc, down the pub or visiting friends/rellies etc your car will be covered.! The only exception is at the home address, as thieves could target the vehicle if it is left outside and seen on more than one occasion..!!!"
It seems a bit harsh to say to you that they will not cover anywhere, or does that only relate to London??
It might depend on who you speak to at CL.
How much extra was it ungaraged??

Zero, zip, nil, nothing except another £100 an the excess if its nicked/damaged whilst on the drive
Bear in mind my drive is about 1/2 mile but the principle is still the same

If I'm reading this right - unless the car is locked in a garage EVERY night - no one is covered for theft from their property!!!
is this the reason that Classic line can offer such competetive rates - ZERO payout!!
Tried NU first - a ridiculous £3grand.
Elephant.co.uk came in quite good at £900.
Adrian Flux couldn't beat elephant....
Classicline was £382 but not covered if left outside (no good)
Anyone else to try? or do you recon £900 is about right for a London/Ungaraged/27yrs old.
I need it to be £600 to fit my budget...otherwise its gonna be a eurobox!!!!

I'm in a similar thing... basically if it's nicked between 22:00 and 06:00, then it's not insured, if not garaged.

What about if you dont look before 6am - could have been stolen between 6 and 7? ![]()
anyone got experience of claiming in a similar situation?
I wouldn't risk it what the following occurs
Its nicked and recovered, Police logs will show times
Some scrote is caught/spotted trying to break in and is reported
Id pay more and sleep comfy at night
Sorry
