Hi Guys

I've bought a 2007 RS4 engine from a wrecked car that comes complete with all sensors / ancillaries.

I plan to use this in my kit car project.

Is there any point in me keeping the ECU?

My previous experience of OEM ECU's is that they are pretty much useless if you don't have the original keys for the car it came out of. Even then, you also run into problems galore when you start removing things like a/c and p/s functions as the ECU will continue to try and look for them and fault find.

I guess that the question is... how flexible is the RS4 ECU - can it be comprehensively re-mapped?

Thanks

Sorry I can't offer any advice on your question but I'm bloody curious about what sort of mad as a box of frogs kits car is going to take this engine?

Ahhhh the old stretching the definition of a "kit car" routinewink I had the image of a caterham/westerfield/tiger type thing with a monster V8 in it, still should be one tidy piece of kit when you've finished, good luck.

also try dyno demon (www.dynodemon.co.uk) they can help advise with ECU remapping for RS4s and RS6S. They work with a guy called grizz who is a member on RS246.com and a bit of a specialist when it comes to the RS models.

Try Naz at Parallel Designs (020 8648 0033), his fitted quite a few engines to his Torero range(recently an S4 2.7 biturbo engine and got the ECU sorted). A good guy too!

On another note let us know how you get on, could make great reading in my magazine (Kit~Car Magazine).

Now trying to decide whether I use my Porsche G50 box or do I sell it and go for a 6-speed Audi 01X box?

Anyone have any opinions?

I understand that the G50 will allow me to have a slightly lower install and is a bit stronger, but I then have to start faffing about with adaptors, starters, etc.

I suppose my questions is - can the 01X box be uprated for RS4 type power (and if so, who can do the work)?

Cheers

Scotty

It's not the power that's the problem it's the torque .This engine does not make that much torque or power tbh They never see 414bhp as standard more like 375-385bhp.

The older 2.7 is much easier to remap and tune .
