Afternoon all,

On Saturday I was stuck in some traffic in the GTR and the water temp just went up and up and at one point hit 100 c and the only reason it did not go higher was that the traffic moved again. Ive done some searches but not come up with much is there any way to improve cooling, bigger fans, watter wetter etc? Car at the moment is totally factory spec.Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks
Dan

my engine builder says the water temp should be between 95 and 100 normally.

Oil should also be around a 100

My oil cooler fan kicks in at 105 and the rad fans at 103

cheers Martin

Hi Bitzleftover ,the factory fans shift about 600cfm of air ,pace do a set that are the same size but move about 1080cfm i think ,its a good upgrade that alot of us have done . got mine from demon tweeks i think . Simon

Thanks for all the replies guys will have a look at Demon Tweeks for those fans. The extra volume would only really be needed at stationary as when on the move water temp sits at about 85-90c.I did wonder it would be worth experimenting with the rad fan switch to cut in earlier or a manual overide try to give a slightly lower temp at the block where the reading is taken from but being new to the SBC I could be talking rubbish. BTW my oil temp so far has only made 80s could this be too cold? The car runs a dry sump would this have any bearing on that?

Thanks again

Dan

As a guideline...the GM ECU/wiring harness for the LS7 turns the rad. fan on at 100 deg.C.....

My C5 Vette ran at 90 degrees, and so does my LSx Truck....but I must admit my old SBC ran closer to 80 most of the time.....

I don't think the SBC likes to run too hot, the standard available thermostats are 160DegF and 180DegF (71 and 82 DegC). Modern engines do run hotter!

Buy direct from Pacet - cheaper than DT.

Plenty of stuff about cooling and how to control it on my websites?
