Has anyone replaced the standard incandecent bulbs with LEDS? I was thinking about getting them here:

A colleague replaced his cabin lights in his 928 with the led festoon bulbs and it looks fantastic.
I'll definately go with the cabin, boot and number plate lights - but what do you think about brake, indicator and rear lights? The current standard lights aren't exactly super bright and was thinking LEDs would give it a modern look when flicking on/off. Also I heard that some cars' indicator system doesn't work with leds.

I have LED's for the interior lights and they are much brighter although they give a colder light. As for tail and indicators you may have to put an extra resistor in as the cars system will think there is no bulb in there and flash to quickly. Most LED companies sell the neccessary stuff.

Do a search as there are some good photos of various colours of the Cerb dash down the list somewhere.

erm they dont think you know. Its just that the impeadance levels are sutch that the relays click faster due to the lower resistance in the circuit. Also i heard that they are illegal anyway.

obviously they dont think, I think people reading what I said wouldnt take me literally.

I have not heard about LED tail lights being illegal, especially as many new cars have them. However, to the OP, it may be a good idea to contact your local MOT station and see what they say.

I've got leds everywhere (exept the fog and reversing lighs and headlights which are hid's) the front side lights are very bright white and complement the hid's perfectly.
The indicators, as you say, are sharp to switch on and off and with an electronic flasher unit, from ultraleds.co.uk, they flash at the correct rate.
As for the mot as long as the bulbs are working etc. there shouldn't be a problem.

Do you have the part numbers to hand? I've been planning to replace the tiny sidelights which are very dim next to my HIDs. May be tempted to do the rest of the lights and clear indicators while I'm at it. Any reason you didn't do the fog/reverse? I'm guessing the fog light might not be bright enough. Do the replacement bulbs just slot in? And finally, where does the flasher unit connect? Do you have the later style lights?

Sorry that's a lot of questions! smile

I don't know the part numbers but the front sidelight bulbs are 501 xenon led's (501 is the type of bulb, capless 5w, xenon ones are bright blue/white to match you're hid's ), the indicators are 382 amber 21w single contact, stop and tail bulbs are 380 21w/5w (I have afterburners so the rear side lights are rings, front lights are the Tuscan style).
I didn't do the fog and reverse because the're not used too much, but you can if you like the lad's are a direct replacement for a bulb.
The flasher unit just replaces the flasher unit in the fusebox in the boot.
All these parts are avaliable from ultraleds.co.uk or ebay do the full range.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at ultraleds.
