Insurance/Hurricane Induction
Discussion
Bought S2 111s in Jan, complete with Janspeed exhaust and Hurricane induction. I spoke to my lovely insurance providers today (the ones with the annoying phone with wheels on it) and they have said that I'll have to pay £140 extra on my insurance if I've got the Hurricane! (exhaust is no extra charge). This is even if it is categorised as having zero performance change to the engine. Not made my mind up whether to take it off in indignation or just pay up the extra cash. Any comments? Do people normally notify their insurance companies and if so what is normally the result? Changing insurers not really an option as I've just renewed.
Shocking isn't it!
I was with one of the large insurers and they stung me for every little mod.
Now with Adrian Flux who are superb and have no problems with the usual exhaust, induction, etc mods.
In my opinion its got to be worth notifying them of anything you do to the car, just in case the unthinkable happens.
Don't give them a reason to wriggle should they need to pay out.

you may find one one on Ebay or on www.seloc.org classifieds maybe
that company with the wheeled phone said as much to me.. s2 elise with janspeed and hurricane induction kit... don't stand for it..why would you part with money you don't have to?
Mr Flux insured my car cheaper with the same spec... so i saved £100 on the orginal quote from the thieves and an extra £100 which they requoted with the mods..
£200 in my pocket not thiers...
cash back. or something

IF you just bought the car in January, and were as ignorant as most people who insure their cars are, (95+% of people wouldn't know what induction is) then simply say the car has no mods.
As long as the mods aren't obviously new (done by you) then it's a fair assumption by you that the car you just bought was standard.
Just my way, I reckon it's worth a try. I have successfully used the ignorance approach in the past.
( if you want to change your induction in future, just get it done at a stamped up service and say the garage fitted it as they had to replace the air-filter and that's all they could get to fit)

Only prob is that I didn't do the mod, so I don't have the stock airbox. Anyone got one for not much?
yep I have one packaged up in the garage from my 135r make me an offer and its yours !I did the same with direct line, they wanted £250, after careful thought I had it done anyway.
I was crapping it for the 4 months I had left on the insurance.
I found cci which insured me with the larini, hurricaine and the first 4 track days for less than 400 sovs and i'm only 28.
